Answering Objections to a Religious Life
True hope rests in God alone, so stop waiting and trust Him now with your life.
We have read your request and we are standing with you in prayer, for we know this battle is real and common to many believers yet God is faithful to give victory.

The desire for intimacy is God given and beautiful when expressed within marriage between a man and a woman, but outside of that covenant any sexual thought or act indulged is sin. Jesus taught that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart Matthew 5:28. We lovingly rebuke the entertaining of lustful thoughts, because lust when it has conceived bears sin and sin when it is full grown brings forth death James 1:15. We are called not to feed the flesh but to flee from it. Flee sexual immorality Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18 and Flee youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace 2 Timothy 2:22.

We affirm your desire to do good exercise, for bodily exercise has some value and our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit to be stewarded well 1 Corinthians 6:19. Yet exercise alone cannot overcome the flesh. We must walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh Galatians 5:16 and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5. That means guarding our eyes and heart, cutting off sources of temptation, renewing our mind with what is pure and holy Whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report think about these things Philippians 4:8, staying in the Word, praying continually, fasting when able, and inviting trusted Christian accountability.

We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find salvation and power over sin. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved Romans 10:9. It is by confessing our sin and trusting in His shed blood that we receive forgiveness If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9 and receive the Holy Spirit to help us overcome. We encourage you to call upon His name daily for strength.

We pray together for you now. Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear one who is wrestling with lustful urges. We ask for Your mercy and forgiveness where thoughts have already strayed, and we ask for Your cleansing. Fill this heart with Your Holy Spirit and give a renewed mind. Grant strength to flee temptation and to take the way of escape that You promise, for You have said No temptation has taken you except what is common to man God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13. Help our friend to walk by the Spirit, to guard the eyes and heart, to meditate on Your Word, and to find healthy and holy outlets for energy through exercise and service while trusting You for true deliverance. Guard this one from fornication and keep this body pure until and within a godly marriage if it is Your will. Let self control and peace replace shame and struggle, and let Your grace be sufficient each moment. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.

Thank you for reaching out so honestly. It takes courage to name this struggle out loud and to ask for prayer instead of trying to handle it alone. We are with you in this and we are praying for you.

It is good you are thinking proactively about exercise. Using your body in a healthy way can help steward your energy and give you a clear next step when urges come. Another step that many find steadying is to plan ahead while you are feeling clear headed. That might mean deciding in advance what you will do when an urge rises, stepping away from screens or places that make it harder, and having one trusted brother or pastor you can be honest with quickly. Isolation makes resistance harder, two really are better than one.

We know urges can feel overwhelming in the moment and then bring discouragement afterward. Please hear that wanting to turn toward God in the middle of that tension matters. God sees the choice you are trying to make right now to seek Him rather than give in.

Father we bring our brother before You and ask for Your help and nearness today. Give him strength to turn away, wisdom to take practical steps that protect his mind and heart, and grace when he feels weak. Remind him he is not alone and that You are patient and faithful as he learns to walk in purity. In Jesus name we pray amen.

We join you in prayer before the throne of grace and thank you for your honest confession, for it is a good and humble thing to distrust yourself and to cry out for help against sin.

The Scripture warns us plainly that when lust has conceived it brings forth sin, and sin when it is finished brings forth death. This is the pedigree of sin, and therefore purity is no small matter. You are right to keep careful watch over your own heart and person, to keep yourself unspotted from the world, for what a man is he will before long do. Temptation itself, though it be a trial permitted by Providence, is a dangerous thing, and our Lord taught us to pray with a humble self distrust, Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. There is courage in looking temptation in the face and dreading only the evil it may work in us, and there is wisdom in remembering that without Christ we can do nothing, not even the least act of purity. Every particle of self reliance is weakness, and our strength is only in Him.

We pray for you now, that the Lord who searches the heart would keep you, that He would not lead you into temptation but would make a way of escape, that He would give you a loathing for sin and a love for Christ that overcomes all lesser loves. We ask that He would cleanse you through the blood of His Son, fill your mind with His Word, and keep you unspotted by His Spirit, teaching you both charity and purity. May He give you self distrust that looks wholly to Him, and self watching that flees from evil.

Your desire to use good exercise is a proper stewardship of the body God has given you, and we thank God for it, yet remember that bodily discipline alone cannot slay sin. Never go into temptation while praying to be delivered from it. Flee youthful lusts, make no provision for the flesh, turn away the eye and the foot from where temptation is to be found, and give yourself to prayer, to the Scriptures, and to useful service for others, for charity and purity go together as the two great garments of Christianity. Keep short accounts with God through frequent self examination, confess quickly, and look immediately to Christ who was tempted and yet without sin, and who is able to keep you from falling.

May the Lord hear your prayer, strengthen you in this hour, and keep you by His mighty power, that you may walk in purity and in love to His glory.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your willingness to be honest about this struggle is a good and humble step, and we are grateful you shared it. We have prayed for you and we will continue to pray that God will strengthen you to stand firm and to walk in purity.

Scripture tells us that no temptation has taken you but such as is common to man, and God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to bear, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. You are not alone in this battle, and the very urge you feel is not a sign that you have already failed, but a call to flee to Christ for help.

Exercise can be a useful and good discipline for the body, and it is wise to use your energy well. Yet the greater help comes from spiritual discipline. Flee from lust as you would flee from a danger, do not linger near it or entertain it. Pursue instead what God calls us to, to be an example in purity, in self control and in holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. Guard your eyes and your thoughts, keep yourself in the Word and in prayer, and bring this struggle into the light with a trusted mature believer who can encourage you and hold you accountable. When the urge comes, turn immediately to prayer, to scripture, and to that way of escape which God provides.

Let us pray for you now. Father, we thank you for this one who desires to honor you. We ask you to grant strength and a clear mind in the moment of temptation, to show the way of escape and to give courage to take it. Fill the heart with love for you and for holiness, and help to live with self control and gravity. Guard thoughts and desires, and make this life a pattern of purity for your glory. Grant peace and assurance that your grace is sufficient and that you are faithful to complete the good work you have begun. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

Keep seeking the Lord daily, and do not be discouraged if the battle continues for a time. God uses even these struggles to make us more watchful and more dependent on Him. If the urges persist, keep praying, keep fleeing, and keep walking in the light. We are here to pray with you and to stand with you.
