I am feeling hopeless

We have heard your cry of hopelessness and we take your burden seriously before the Lord with you. Lust is not a small struggle and we grieve with you over the destruction it has brought, yet we want you to know that hopelessness is a lie from the enemy when Christ offers complete forgiveness and renewal. The Word tells us plainly where lust leads. James 1:14-15 says each man is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death. And Jesus himself said in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. We must rebuke this sin lovingly but firmly because it sins against your own body and against God who made you for purity. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

We also hear that you did not mention the name of Jesus in your request and we must speak to this because there is no hope apart from Him. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved and cleansed. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not yet turned to Him in repentance and faith, we urge you to confess that you are a sinner in need of a Savior, believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose again, and call upon His name to save you. 1 John 1:9 promises if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Romans 6:23 reminds us for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

You are not beyond restoration. God does not leave you in shame but offers to make you new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. He promises to give you a clean heart as we pray in Psalm 51:10 create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Your feeling of hopelessness can be replaced by true hope in God. Psalm 42:11 asks why are you in despair, my soul Why are you disturbed within me Hope in God For I shall still praise him, the salvation of my face, and my God. And Jeremiah 29:11 says for I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

We encourage you to walk in practical repentance and not merely in sorrow. God has made a way of escape for every temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. That way of escape means fleeing, cutting off sources that feed lust, bringing your struggle into the light with a trusted mature Christian brother for accountability, and daily renewing your mind in the Word. Romans 12:2 says don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Galatians 5:16 says but I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. God designed sexual intimacy only for within marriage between a man and a woman, and any sex outside of that covenant whether in act or in lustful thought is fornication or adultery that must be forsaken. We pray you will pursue purity now and if God wills marriage, pursue a godly spouse in a courtship that honors Him, rather than remaining in patterns that dishonor Him.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved and have access to Your throne. We lift up this dear soul who feels hopeless and defeated by lust. Lord we confess this sin with him and ask for Your mercy and cleansing. Forgive him through the blood of Jesus and wash him thoroughly from all unrighteousness. Create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Break the chains of lust that have ruined so much and give him strength to flee every temptation and to make no provision for the flesh. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit so he may walk by the Spirit and not gratify the desires of the flesh. Replace his hopelessness with hope in You, remind him daily that he is a new creation in Christ and that Your thoughts toward him are of peace and a future. Guard his eyes, his mind, and his heart, set him on the path of purity, and if it is Your will lead him toward a godly marriage that honors You. Sustain him with Your Word, with prayer, and with godly fellowship, and let him know he is not alone. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We are grateful you reached out and named this so honestly. Feeling hopeless when a pattern has hurt your life for a long time makes sense, and we hear how tired you must be of fighting it.

What you describe is familiar to many who struggle with lust. It often is not just about a moment of desire, but about wanting something we were not meant to have in that way, and letting that desire take a larger place than it should. Over time it can form a painful cycle of fantasy and acting out followed by despair, and then turning back to the same thoughts to cope with the despair. Seeing that cycle can help make sense of why willpower alone, or trying to white knuckle it, rarely brings lasting change.

One step that consistently helps is not carrying this alone. We would encourage you to invite one safe, mature person into this with you for ongoing accountability, ideally a pastor or a Christian counselor who understands sexual struggles, and to meet with them regularly, not just when you have slipped. Naming temptations early with someone trustworthy takes away some of their power and gives you support in the moment you need it most. If you already have a church, that pastor could also help you explore underlying hurts or loneliness that may be driving the pattern.

We care about you and we are praying for you.

Father, we bring our brother before You in Jesus name. You see his hopelessness and his desire to be free. Give him courage to reach out, strength to walk one day at a time, and a deep sense of Your mercy and presence as he seeks You. Lead him to the right help and keep him close to You. Amen.

Hello brother, I used to have bad problems with lust as well but God healed me in the Sacrament of Confession. It has been over 3 and a half years since I have committed sins of this kind. Maybe God can heal you as well.

God bless you.

Hello! I pray your day is going well brother!

I am not a catholic. I am a Christian and I do not agree with what Catholicism teaches. It's okay in some areas, but not in others. I mean no offense to you and I really greatly appreciate that video, but I think in my opinion that Jesus is who we should rely on.

I pray you understand, can you provide a different video? if you know any! I have looked into Catholicism and I am still eager to here so if you want to tell me anything I'll have to think about it, but for now I am going through a lot I pray you understand. But right now I don't really see if this is good,

you know that feeling when God is telling you it's something you should avoid, I am currently getting that with Catholicism, but if God is okay with it I would like to hear more, but in my honest opinion, yes Catholicism has some good beliefs, but it has some flaws as well. Idk if I haven't researched it enough, but Christianity is what I follow as of now. And I did research into it, and they confess sins to Mary, and pray to Mary, and I just do not agree with that. I only pray to Jesus/God, no saints or anything.

Can we talk to eachover more, maybe I could share some things about Christianity with you that would be cool👍 Thank you for replying it's really kind of you, God bless you!

The hopelessness you describe is not unknown to God, and it is honest to confess that lust, when indulged, does ruin life. Scripture traces its pedigree plainly, when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death. Any sin that we cling to and love will bring forth death, rest assured of that. To feel its destructive power is painful, but to see it truly is the beginning of mercy.

Yet hopelessness itself can become another chain if you believe the lie that bondage must be final. No earthly power can bring real freedom to the soul, it is Grace and Grace alone that brings it by the blood of the Covenant. Where that freedom comes, no form of bondage can make a man a slave. You may feel whipped and mastered by this sin, but the great Liberator proclaims immediate and unconditional freedom to those who are still slaves under sin. Justice demands our freedom, and mercy secures it through Christ.

That freedom is not found in managing lust or making peace with it. At first the sinner hugs his chains, as Israel in Egypt said, let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians, but God will not have it so. You must own that you are indeed a slave, for there is no freedom for you except as one who needs to be set free. The promise is not to those who are already free in themselves, but to prisoners of hope who turn to the stronghold.

By nature we are corrupted through lust, but by regeneration God gives a higher nature, so that we become partakers of the Divine Nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. Purity and holiness are not optional adornments, without holiness no man shall see the Lord, and purity without charity is cold, while charity without purity is of no use. God calls you not only to be forgiven, but to be made new, to walk uprightly in both senses of that word, as a free man should, in the Presence of the Lord who has bought His servant's freedom.

Therefore turn to Christ alone for salvation, for there is no other name by which you can be saved. Confess this sin plainly to God without excuse, and ask for the cleansing that only His blood can give. Flee from every provision and occasion for lust, as you would flee from death itself, and pursue purity within the bounds God has ordained, where sex and living together belong only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Fill the place once given to lust with the visitation of holiness, with prayer, with the Word, with honest fellowship and accountability in the church, so that you may grow in prayerfulness, holiness, earnestness and the higher life.

I pray that God will grant you repentance and faith to look wholly to Jesus, that you will know freedom indeed through His blood, that you will receive a new heart that loves purity and finds lust bitter, and that you will walk henceforth not fawning and crouching like a slave who dreads his master's lash, but as Christ's free man, kept by His power and lifted into familiarity with God.
