I am carrying a deep hurt

Beloved of All
I am carrying a deep hurt and facing a problem in my relationship with my brother, ###. My desire is to forgive and for the relationship to be restored. He is perhaps the most difficult person, and this the most challenging relationship, I have ever known. Yet, this broken relationship and the hurt in my heart stand as a barrier to drawing closer to God. Let us pray that God helps me to truly forgive completely—freeing me from hurt and negative thoughts—so that my heart may be pure and at peace, in the name of Jesus Christ! Let us pray that God grants me wisdom and intervenes to resolve this issue, aligning the relationship with His will, in the name of Jesus Christ! Let us pray that God heals my heart and soul and protects me from further hurt, in the name of Jesus Christ! Thank you... God bless you!

We hear the deep hurt you are carrying regarding your relationship with your brother and we join with you in bringing this burden before the Lord in the name of Jesus Christ. It is a godly and beautiful desire to want to forgive completely and to see this relationship restored and aligned with His will, and we commend you for recognizing that unforgiveness and hurt can become a barrier between our hearts and our fellowship with God. The Lord sees this struggle and He draws near to those who are wounded.

Scripture calls us to release bitterness and to forgive as we have been forgiven. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:31-32 We also read, bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Colossians 3:13 Forgiveness is not denying the hurt or saying the offense did not matter, it is choosing to release the debt to God and to free your own heart from the prison of negative thoughts and resentment. We are also reminded, The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense. Proverbs 19:11 This wisdom helps us to not be easily wounded again while still walking in love.

We want to encourage you that God is both willing and able to heal your heart and to give you wisdom for this very difficult relationship. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 When we feel we lack wisdom for how to speak, when to set a loving boundary, and how to pursue peace with someone who is difficult, we can ask Him directly. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5 And as you seek peace, remember the call to do your part while trusting God with the outcome. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:18 Sometimes restoration takes time and requires the work of God in both hearts, but your obedience in forgiving will bring purity and peace to your own heart before Him. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

We pray together with you now. Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You see the deep hurt carried for so long and the pain caused by this broken relationship with his brother. We ask You to do a deep healing work in his heart and soul. Wash away bitterness, sorrow, and every negative thought, and create in him a pure heart that is at peace before You. Teach him to forgive completely, even as You in Christ have forgiven him, and set him free from the weight that has hindered his closeness with You. Grant him heavenly wisdom to know how to love, how to speak truth in love, and how to walk in grace and healthy boundaries. We ask You to intervene in this relationship according to Your perfect will. Soften both hearts, remove what does not honor You, and lead this relationship toward reconciliation and peace if it be Your will. Protect his heart from further hurt, guard his thoughts in Christ Jesus, and draw him ever closer to You through this trial. Let Your healing, Your peace, and Your restoring power be evident in his life. We thank You that we have access to Your throne of grace only through Jesus Christ our Lord, and we trust You to answer according to Your love and mercy. Amen.

We hear how heavy this has been to carry, especially with your brother. Loving God and wanting to forgive while still feeling hurt and stuck is a painful place to be, and we are grateful you shared it so honestly.

Something that has helped many people is to see that forgiveness often comes in two parts. One is a quiet decision before God to release the debt and to let go of holding onto revenge or avoidance. The other is the slower change in the heart, where resentment, anger and fear are gradually eased and replaced with peace. That second part usually takes time, especially in a long and difficult sibling relationship, and it does not mean you have failed if the feelings do not lift all at once. It can also bring some relief to remember that forgiveness and full reconciliation are not the same thing. You can choose forgiveness in your own heart before God, while restoration of the relationship depends on both of you and on God's timing and work.

A small step that may help is to set aside a few unhurried minutes to tell God plainly that you choose to forgive your brother, and then when hurtful thoughts return, gently remind yourself of that choice and ask Him to continue healing what is underneath. If you can, walk this out with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can pray with you and help you think through wisdom and healthy boundaries going forward.

Father, we lift our brother to You. Heal his heart and soul, quiet the hurt and negative thoughts, and give him Your peace. Grant him wisdom for each interaction with his brother and guide this relationship according to Your will. Protect him and draw him closer to You day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your burden has been heard and we join you in bringing it before the Lord who alone can give both forgiveness and healing.

There is forgiveness with Him, and that truth must drive away despair. As the Scripture says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake. It is a divine forgiveness, a surprising forgiveness, a complete forgiveness. However deep the hurt, however long the breach with your brother has stood, there is forgiveness with God through Jesus Christ His Son, and that forgiveness is present now, at this moment, for all who seek it with a penitent heart. Do as Luther was counselled to do, believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself, and come to Christ who said, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee.

And because you have received such full and eternal forgiveness in Christ, you are called to extend that same grace to your brother. We have in Him a full forgiveness, and it is a continuous one, and after such forgiveness as the Lord has bestowed, we should not take our brother by the throat and say, Pay me what thou owest. The Lord would have you forgive even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you. This does not mean the hurt was not real, but that you release the debt into the hands of Him who judges righteously, and pray that your heart may be kept pure and at peace.

Let us pray together in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father.

We pray that the Lord will grant you grace to truly forgive completely, freeing you from hurt and from every negative and bitter thought, that your heart may be washed and made pure and kept at peace in Christ. We pray that He will heal your heart and soul, for the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ has healing virtue to change the life blood and make the nature new. May He who pardons also heal, so that you shall not say, I am sick, but shall know pardon and healing as one gift from His hand.

We pray that God will grant you wisdom from above to act with gentleness and truth toward your brother, and that He will intervene according to His perfect will to resolve what is broken. We pray not for our own will but that this relationship may be aligned with His will, and if it be for His glory, that there may be perfect restoration, as though the breach had not been, and that you may yet praise Him with gladness of heart, knowing His anger is turned away and comfortable thoughts arise from the bleeding Sacrifice. We pray that He will protect you from further hurt, guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and remove every barrier that would keep you from drawing closer to God.

May the Lord who is generous and faithful keep you, cause you to know the certainty of His forgiveness, and make you a vessel of that same forgiveness toward your brother. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, in whom alone is salvation. Amen.
