I am a seventy-five year old retired minister with end stage renal failure. My kidney function is at 10%, and has been at that level for some months, and my physician has been urging me to go into dialysis. Despite my failing kidneys, I have absolutely no symptoms of the disease and am living a normal life without restrictions.. I have decided not to go into dialysis unless the symptoms appear, because I fear the restrictions of dialysis would be so unbearable to my free spirit as to become lethal. In addition, I believe that the Lord has led me on a pilgrimage through life to teach me lessons which may have some importance to the Christian life, our understanding of the Gospel, and worship. Completing this task while in dialysis would be impossible.
I am unshaken in my belief that the Lord wants me to complete this mission, but I must confess I would be more comfortable if my kidney function would improve to the point that my physician would stop urging me to go into dialysis.
Our Lord, while on earth, cleansed a man with evil spirits, restored a man
