Husband left wife and kid moved in with evil mother

We hear the pain in this request and we join together to lift this wife and child before the Lord and to pray for this husband who has left his marriage to return to his mother's house. This abandonment grieves the heart of God because marriage is a sacred covenant. Genesis 2:24 says Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. Matthew 19:6 says What therefore God has joined together, don't let man tear apart. What has happened here is a reversal of God's order, a man leaving his wife to go back to his mother rather than cleaving to his wife as one flesh.

We must speak plainly that a husband leaving his wife and child is sin and a forsaking of his God given duty. Ephesians 5:25 says Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it. 1 Timothy 5:8 says But if anyone doesn't provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever. Malachi 2:16 says For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel. And 1 Corinthians 7:10 says Let the wife not leave her husband and let the husband not leave his wife. We rebuke this departure and we pray that this husband will be convicted by the Holy Spirit, repent, and return to love, provide for, and lead his family in godliness.

We also gently address the heart toward the mother. We understand there may be deep hurt and conflict, but we are called not to harbor bitterness or to label others with hatred. Matthew 5:44 says But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. Ephesians 4:32 says And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. We encourage this wife not to let a root of bitterness grow, but to pray for her mother-in-law's salvation and transformation, that she would encourage her son to honor his marriage vows rather than enable his abandonment.

We notice this request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ and we want to lovingly remind that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. We pray that each person in this family will put their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, for without Him there is no reconciliation with God or true restoration.

We pray together now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. We lift up this wife who feels abandoned and this precious child who needs a father. We ask You to be their defender and provider. Psalm 68:5 says A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. Pour out Your comfort, provision, and peace upon them. Philippians 4:7 says And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Guard this wife's heart from despair and anger. Give her strength to walk in faithfulness, to seek godly counsel in her church, and to trust You while she waits on Your work. We pray for this husband, that You would convict him of his sin, turn his heart from selfishness, and draw him to repentance and back to his wife and child to fulfill his vows before You. Soften the heart of his mother, that she would speak truth and encourage reconciliation rather than division. Restore this marriage for Your glory, that it would be a testimony of Your redeeming love and covenant faithfulness. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We encourage this wife to remain steadfast in prayer, to not pursue another relationship but to seek the healing and restoration of her marriage, to surround herself with mature believers who will support her and her child, and to continue to forgive as Christ forgave us while trusting that God is working even in this painful separation. Romans 8:28 says We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

We are so sorry to hear about this family being torn apart. When a husband leaves his wife and child, especially to go back to his mother, the hurt runs deep for everyone, and we hear how heavy this is for you to carry as someone who loves them.

What you are seeing is a lot of loss at once. For the wife it can feel like a death, the death of the marriage as it was, and for a child that sense of abandonment is confusing and painful. Healing from something like this is not quick, it often takes a long time of grieving and adjusting, and the effects ripple through the whole extended family. It is understandable to feel anger toward his mother right now as well.

In a painful season like this, steady, practical support matters so much. If you are close to the wife, one of the most loving things you can do is help her not face this alone. We would encourage her to be surrounded by a small circle of trusted support, her family of faith, wise friends or family, and also to get clear legal guidance from a qualified attorney about next steps for herself and her child. A pastor or Christian counselor can also walk with her through the grief and the decisions ahead, while mediation is often a far gentler path than litigation when it comes to protecting children.

We are praying for you as you support them.

Father, we lift this wife and her child to You, and we lift the husband and his mother as well. Bring comfort where there is rejection, stability for this child, and wisdom for every decision ahead. Surround this family with Your care and with people who will walk faithfully beside them. Give our friend strength and discernment as they love them well. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is a heaviness of heart in hearing that a husband has forsaken his vows and left his wife and child to dwell elsewhere, and the Lord who sees in secret has seen this sorrow and is not unmoved by it.

The Scripture teaches that marriage is a covenant before God, not a mere convenience to be cast aside when trial comes. It is not a bond of birth but a bond of choice and promise, wherein a man and a woman become one flesh. What God has joined together, man ought not to put asunder. When a husband leaves the wife of his covenant, it is a grievous sin against his God and against those whom he was sworn to love and cherish and provide for. We cannot ask God to bless a forsaking, but we may and do ask Him to convict, to chasten, and to restore.

Yet there is hope, for we serve a God who restores those who have fallen. Peter denied his Lord and went out in bitter weeping, but the eye of Jesus followed him, and the prayer of Jesus prevailed for him, and he was brought back to feed the sheep. So we pray that this husband may hear the look of Christ upon him, that the Holy Spirit will bring to his remembrance his error, that presumption and hardness will be broken, and that he will be led to repentance and to a faithful return to his proper place as husband and father. We pray also that any influence which would encourage him in this departure, even from his own mother, would be overruled for good, and that he would no longer be swayed to forsake his household but would honor his vows as before God.

For you who are left to bear this burden with your child, know that the Lord has revealed Himself as a Husband to His people. He set His love upon His own when they were in a wilderness, He has been faithful when men are faithless, He communes with the sorrowful, and He provides for His own as a husband provides for his household. Though an earthly husband may fail, the Lord does not fail. Cast your care upon Him. Seek communion with Him in the closet and in the turmoil of daily life, for He will be your strength. Cling to Christ, believe on Him alone for salvation and for daily grace, for there is no other name by which we are saved, and no other fountain for a wounded heart.

Let us pray together.

O faithful God, who hast declared Thyself a Husband to Thy people, look in mercy upon this broken home. Have compassion upon this wife and this child in their loneliness and need. Provide for them, protect them, give them bread and covering, and surround them with the care of Thy church. Let them find fellowship with Thee that is sweeter than any earthly comfort. Lord Jesus, Thou who didst pray for Peter that his faith fail not, pray now for this husband. Bring him to see his sin as sin against Thee, grant him godly sorrow which worketh repentance, and turn his feet back to the covenant he has forsaken. Teach him to love his wife as Christ loved the church, and to nourish and cherish his own flesh. Restrain every voice that would harden him in this way, and let Thy word prevail in his heart. Work regeneration and sanctification within each heart, and bring restoration where there has been rending. Do this for Thy glory, that this family may yet be a testimony of Thy restoring grace. In the name of Jesus our only Redeemer, Amen.

Take courage to wait upon the Lord, to seek godly counsel from faithful pastors and elders, and to remain steadfast in prayer and in the Word. The Lord who restores the wanderer is able to do abundantly more than we ask.

Your pain has been heard and brought before the Lord with sorrow. To see a husband leave his wife and child and return to his mother's house is a wound against the home that God joined together, and we grieve with you and for your child in this abandonment.

Scripture teaches that the woman is bound by law to her husband so long as he lives, and the same bond holds the husband to his wife. Marriage is not a contract that can be set aside when it becomes difficult, but a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, made before God. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. The husband has a charge to rule his household not as a tyrant but in love and responsibility, and together the husband and wife have charge over their children. To honor father and mother is the first commandment with promise, yet that honor never requires a man to forsake the wife he has vowed to keep and the child entrusted to him.

The world is full of voices and influences that plot against marriages and make husbands insupportable to their wives and wives contemptible to their husbands, drawing hearts away from the home. When such disorder enters, the household is turned upside down. This is why we must guard the marriage bed and the family table from every intrusion, even from well meaning parents, and keep our hearts fixed on Christ who alone can make us faithful.

For you who have been left, remain steadfast in the Lord. Do not seek to answer evil with evil, and do not seek another marriage while your husband lives, for you are still bound in that covenant before God. Continue to walk in holiness, to care for your child, and to trust the Lord to be your provider and defender. If your husband is willing to dwell with you in peace and in godliness, do not put him away, for there is hope that through your faithfulness he may be won. If he demands that you share in ungodliness or bids you to forsake Christ, you must obey God rather than man, yet even then let your desire be for reconciliation and repentance, not for revenge.

We will pray for you, for your child, and for your husband and his mother. We pray that God, through Jesus Christ alone who is our only salvation, will grant your husband repentance, that he will remember his vows, turn from this forsaking, and return to care for his wife and child as God commands. We pray that his mother will be given wisdom to love without controlling and to encourage her son toward his proper duty rather than away from it. We pray that the Lord will guard your heart from bitterness, supply your daily needs, comfort your child, and surround you with the help of the church so you are not alone. We pray that Christ, who did not disdain to enter homes and to sit with the sorrowful, will be present in your house and bring peace where there is now confusion.

Cast your burden on the Lord and continue in prayer. He sees the tears of those who mourn like a father who burns with grief for his children, and He is able to restore and to heal. Hold fast to Him and to His word.
