It is good that you are bringing this desire before the Lord in prayer. The yearning for marriage is a natural and God-given desire, but it is vital to hold it in the right perspective. The deepest longing of every human heart is not for a change in circumstance, but for a living, vital fellowship with God Himself. A life lived apart from a conscious relationship with Him is, by its very nature, empty and meaningless, no matter what we achieve or who we marry. The most fulfilling life is not found in moving out of state or finding the right connections, but in answering the purpose for which you were created: to know and walk with God.
Consider that just as God has given gifts to each person, the gift of being unmarried for a season is also a calling. It is good to abide where God has placed you, to bloom where you are planted, and to let your present life be an adornment of the doctrine of God our Savior. While you wait, your task is not to find life in a future marriage, but to lose your life for Christ’s sake right now. When you try to jump ahead of God’s direction, you are setting yourself up for deep frustration and pain. Wait on Him. The hope of eternal life is the blessed hope, and that life is in the Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life, no matter what other relationships he may gain.
Your request should ultimately be that you find your complete satisfaction in Jesus Christ, so that no future marriage must carry the impossible weight of making your life meaningful. True peace, love, and joy are only in the Son. If you are longing for a genuine Christian husband, that is a desire to be united with someone in whom you have already found your life. A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives, and if she marries, she should marry only in the Lord. But do not let that good desire become an idol that displaces God from the center of your life. The heart that is set on Christ, trusting in His promise of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, has made, is a heart that is secure. Wait upon the Lord. His timing is perfect, and He will direct your steps as you keep your focus on the life that truly is life.
