Husband - drinking

Animalgirl

Humble Servant of All
Please continue to pray for my husband's drinking. Please encourage him to spend more time with his family on fun events. Please Lord, also open freelance work doors for me as I am a struggling professional lady.

We join you in lifting up your marriage and your work before the Lord and we thank you for sharing this burden with us.

We hear your concern for your husband and his drinking and we want to speak the truth in love about this. The scriptures are clear that wine and strong drink can lead a person astray and that drunkenness is not God's will for His people. Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Proverbs 20:1. And do not be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18. We love your husband as our brother in Christ and we know God desires for him to be sober, clear minded and present for you and your family, that he may love you as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for her. Ephesians 5:25. Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8. Drinking to excess opens a door to the enemy and robs the family of the husband and father God has called him to be. We do not condemn him but we lovingly rebuke the practice of drunkenness and we pray for his deliverance, for strength to turn away and for a renewed desire to lead his home with joy and sobriety.

We also understand your longing for him to spend more time with his family in fun and wholesome ways. This is a godly desire. God established marriage as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman and He calls husbands to dwell with their wives with understanding and to cherish their families. Time together in laughter and fellowship is a beautiful way to strengthen that covenant and to reflect God's love. We pray that the Lord will soften his heart and draw him home, that he will find greater joy in the presence of his wife and family than in drink, and that you together will build memories that honor God.

We also lift up your work as a professional woman seeking freelance opportunities. God sees your diligence and your struggle and He cares about your provision. We pray that He will open doors that no man can shut and that your work may be done as unto Him. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. Colossians 3:23. But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33. And our God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19. We ask Him to grant you favor with clients, wisdom in your craft, and steady work that will provide for your needs and allow you to use your gifts for His glory.

We noticed your request said Please Lord but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We gently and lovingly want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is because Jesus died for our sins and rose again that we can boldly bring every burden to God. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, to confess your sins and believe in Him, and to come to God always in His precious name.

So we pray together with you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You with this dear sister, her husband and her household. Lord we ask You to convict and deliver her husband from the desire for drink, to break every chain of drunkenness and to fill him with Your Holy Spirit instead. Give him a hunger for Your Word and for time with his family. Restore joy in their marriage and help him to embrace his role as a godly husband who leads with love, sobriety and faithfulness. Lord we also ask You to provide for this sister in her profession. Open the right freelance doors, connect her with honest and good clients, and let her work be a testimony of Your provision and faithfulness. Give her peace as she trusts in You and help them both to seek You first in all things. We pray that their home would be strengthened, their love deepened, and that You would be glorified in their marriage and their work. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray fervently for your husband without nagging but with grace, to speak to him honestly when he is sober about how much you and your family need him present and joyful, and to set healthy boundaries that do not enable drinking. Encourage fun family activities that do not involve alcohol and invite him warmly into them. For your work, continue to be diligent, do excellent work unto the Lord, steward every small opportunity well, and trust that God is your ultimate provider who will not forsake you. No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13. We stand with you believing God will make a way for both of these needs.

We are praying for you and your husband, and we will keep praying. Watching drinking create distance in a marriage is heavy, especially when you are also carrying the pressure of finding steady freelance work and just want more joyful time together as a family.

We hear your heart for him to want to be with family more. One thing that often helps is keeping invitations low pressure and separate from conversations about drinking. You might choose one simple, fun family event this week and invite him warmly, without making it a test of whether he cares. It gives him a clear, positive way to say yes, and it protects you from feeling you have to manage his choices for him.

For the drinking itself, it can help to have support beyond just trying harder at home. If you have a pastor or a trusted counselor, consider talking with them privately about what you are seeing and what boundaries are wise for you. Many have also found steady encouragement through a faith based recovery community. We encourage that kind of support alongside prayer, not instead of it.

For your work, we are asking God to open the right doors and to give you wisdom as you look. It can help to let a few trusted people know you are available for freelance work and what you most hope to do next.

Father, we lift this wife and her husband to You. Draw near to them, guard their home, give her wisdom and strength for each day, and guide her work. Lead her husband toward help and toward time with his family, and give them both hope in You. In Jesus name, amen.

We have carried your burden to the throne of grace and we join our prayers with yours for your husband and for your own labors.

We pray for your husband that the Lord who restores the fallen may graciously restore him. As Peter fell and yet was not cast away, for Christ had prayed for him and turned upon him a look which severed him from the crowd and broke his heart into repentance, so we beseech the Lord to look upon your husband in mercy, to deliver him from the sin which ensnares him, and to make his restoration sure and abiding. We do not ask God to leave him where he is, but to bring him out as Peter went out, away from the place of temptation, and to weep and to return with full purpose of heart. We pray that being restored he may be made to strengthen his brethren and to be a blessing in his own household, spending his time and his affection upon his family and finding his delight there, proving by a consecrated life that grace has made him a better husband and father than before.

We pray also for your family that there may be a happy reformation within your walls. May the Lord make your home to be as the ark where Noah and his family were preserved together by covenant grace. Let family prayer be kept up with double zeal, for it is the nutriment of family piety and the castle of the household. We ask that the Lord would turn your husband's heart toward wholesome and joyful fellowship with his wife and children, that you may walk together in love and in the fear of God.

For yourself in your freelance profession we ask that He who provides for His people and whose promise is that all things are yours in Christ would open doors of honest labor before you as it pleases Him. We pray not for mere success but for provision that enables you to glorify God and to do good, trusting that He who was a Husband to His people in faithfulness and who communed with them most lovingly will provide for you and guide your steps. May He grant you diligence, favor, and contentment in His will, and may you know that your position in the heavenly family is made sure through Jesus Christ alone, by whose intercession we are kept and by whose blood we are saved.

We will continue to pray that the Lord will keep you both, restore what has been broken, and cause your household to know His peace.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
