Husband drinking and moods

Animalgirl

Humble Servant of All
Lord please stop my husband drinking and being moody with his family. Please lift this cloud from me.

We hear your heartache and desperation, dear sister in Christ, and we stand with you in prayer before the throne of grace. The struggles you describe, your husband’s drinking and moodiness, are heavy burdens, not only for him but for your entire family. We know the pain of watching a loved one battle with sin and the toll it takes on those who love them. But we also know the power of our Lord, who is able to break every chain and restore what has been broken.

First, we must address the root of this issue with truth and love. The Bible is clear about the dangers of drunkenness: "Do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18 WEB). Drinking to excess is not merely a habit, it is a sin that clouds the mind, enslaves the will, and harms the body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). It also leads to other sins, such as anger, neglect, and broken relationships, as we see in your husband’s moodiness toward his family. Proverbs 20:1 warns us, "Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise." This is not a condemnation of your husband, but a call to repentance and freedom in Christ.

We also see the toll this is taking on you. The "cloud" you feel is the weight of living in an environment where sin is present and unchecked. But we serve a God who "gives the weary strength and increases the power of the weak" (Isaiah 40:29 WEB). You are not alone in this battle, and your prayers are not in vain. The Lord hears the cries of the righteous, and He is faithful to answer.

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this sister and her husband to Your throne of grace. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of addiction in his life. You are the God who sets the captives free, and we declare that freedom over him in the mighty name of Jesus. Soften his heart, Lord, and open his eyes to see the destruction his drinking is causing, not just to himself, but to his family. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in wisdom and self-control.

Father, we also pray for this precious wife. The weight she carries is heavy, and we ask that You would lift this cloud of despair from her. Give her strength, peace, and unwavering faith as she waits on You. Surround her with Your presence, Lord, and remind her that she is not alone. Help her to trust in Your promises and to find her hope in You alone.

We rebuke the spirit of addiction and moodiness in this home, in the name of Jesus. We declare that this family is covered by the blood of Christ, and we speak healing, restoration, and peace over their household. Father, we ask that You would bring godly men into this husband’s life, men who will speak truth, hold him accountable, and walk with him in his journey toward freedom. May he turn to You, Lord, and find the strength to overcome this battle.

We also pray for their marriage, Lord. Where there has been hurt, bring healing. Where there has been distance, bring closeness. Where there has been anger, bring gentleness. Restore their love and unity, that their home may be a place of peace and joy, reflecting Your glory.

Finally, Lord, we ask that You would draw this husband to Yourself. If he does not yet know You as his Savior, we pray that he would surrender his life to Jesus Christ, the only One who can truly set him free. May he experience the power of Your love and the transformation that comes through a relationship with You.

We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Sister, we want to encourage you to stand firm in your faith and to continue praying without ceasing. This battle is not yours alone, it is the Lord’s, and He is fighting for you. Here are a few steps you can take as you wait on Him:

1. Pray for Your Husband Daily: Lift him up to the Lord every day, asking God to work in his heart. Pray specifically for his deliverance from this addiction and for the Holy Spirit to fill him with self-control.

2. Seek Godly Counsel: Find a pastor, biblical counselor, or trusted Christian friend who can walk with you through this. You do not have to carry this burden alone. Proverbs 11:14 tells us, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."

3. Set Boundaries with Love: While you cannot control your husband’s actions, you can set boundaries to protect yourself and your children from the effects of his sin. This may mean seeking temporary separation if his behavior becomes abusive or unsafe. Love does not enable sin, it speaks truth and calls for repentance.

4. Trust in God’s Timing: Restoration may not happen overnight, but God is faithful. Continue to trust in Him, even when the situation seems hopeless. "Those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31 WEB).

5. Focus on Your Own Walk with Christ: It is easy to become consumed by your husband’s struggles, but you must also guard your own heart and relationship with the Lord. Spend time in His Word, worship Him, and allow Him to fill you with His peace. "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You" (Isaiah 26:3 WEB).

6. Encourage Accountability for Your Husband: If he is willing, encourage him to seek accountability with other godly men. This could be through a men’s group at church, a recovery program, or a trusted friend who will walk with him in his journey toward sobriety.

Remember, sister, that your husband’s salvation and deliverance are ultimately in God’s hands. You cannot change him, but you can pray, trust, and surrender him to the Lord. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith, and He will sustain you through this trial.

We will continue to stand with you in prayer, believing that God is at work even now. May He fill your heart with hope and your home with His peace.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We want to thank you for the trust you placed in us to lift your husband, your family, and your own heart before the Lord. It has been our privilege to stand in agreement with you, praying that God would break the grip of alcohol and restore peace in your home. We have asked the Holy Spirit to soften your husband’s heart, to fill him with godly sorrow instead of anger, and to replace his struggles with the joy and self-control that only Christ can give. We have also prayed for you—that the Lord would lift the heaviness you feel, surround you with His comfort, and give you strength to walk in faith even when circumstances are difficult.

If the Lord has moved in answer to these prayers—if you’ve seen a change in your husband’s heart or a lightening of your spirit—we would love to hear how God has worked. Your praise report could encourage others who are waiting on Him. If, however, the burden remains, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are here to continue praying with you, believing that God hears and answers according to His perfect will and timing.

May the Father draw near to you, remind you of His love, and fill your home with His peace. We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus.
