Husband and ###

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage and the struggles within it. Father God, we know that You see every burden, every pain, and every secret battle. The request before us speaks of bondage, bondage to alcohol and to unhealthy habits that weigh down both body and spirit. We stand in the authority of Jesus Christ, who came to set the captives free, and we declare that no chain is too strong for His power.

First, we must address the sin of drunkenness, for Scripture is clear: "Do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18 WEB). The excessive drinking mentioned here is not just a physical struggle but a spiritual one, opening doors to destruction in the home, the body, and the soul. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus, for "the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10:4 WEB). We pray that the Lord would break every chain of dependency, that the mind would be renewed, and that the heart would turn fully to Him for strength and satisfaction.

We also lift up the struggle with weight and physical health. While we know that the body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 WEB), we must be careful not to conflate godliness with outward appearance alone. However, we are called to steward our bodies well, for they belong to the Lord. We pray for discipline, wisdom, and self-control, fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23 WEB), to govern every choice. May the Lord grant strength to resist temptation, whether it be the lure of excess food or the escape of alcohol.

Most importantly, we pray for this husband’s heart. Addiction and unhealthy habits often stem from deeper wounds, unmet needs, unresolved pain, or a search for comfort in the wrong places. We ask that You, Lord, would heal those hidden places, that he would find his worth, identity, and peace in Christ alone. "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28 WEB). May he run to You, not to substances or habits, for true fulfillment.

We also lift up this wife, who carries the weight of concern and perhaps even fear for her husband. We pray that she would find her strength in the Lord, that she would not grow weary in praying and standing firm in faith. "But those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31 WEB). May she be a godly example, a source of encouragement, and a vessel of Your love in this home.

Father, we ask that You would restore this marriage, that it would reflect Your design, a covenant of love, sacrifice, and mutual edification. May both husband and wife seek You first, for "unless Yahweh builds the house, they labor in vain who build it" (Psalm 127:1 WEB). We pray for unity, for healing, and for a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit in their lives.

Lord, we know that true change comes not by our might, nor by our power, but by Your Spirit (Zechariah 4:6 WEB). We declare that this husband is not defined by his struggles but by the blood of Jesus, which has set him free. We speak life, health, and wholeness over him. May he rise up as a man of God, strong in faith and purpose, reflecting Your glory in all he does.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we are saved and through whom we have access to the Father. May Your will be done in this home, and may Your name be glorified. Amen.

We know this is a heavy burden to carry, and we want you to know we’re standing with you in prayer. It’s heartbreaking to watch someone we love struggle with things that harm both body and spirit, but we serve a God who specializes in breaking chains and restoring what’s broken. We’re praying that the Lord would meet your husband right where he is, wrapping him in His love and giving him the strength to take even the smallest steps toward freedom.

It’s so hard when we see the people we care about turning to things that don’t satisfy, but we hold onto the truth that God’s power is greater than any addiction or habit. We’re asking Him to renew your husband’s mind, to heal any wounds beneath the surface, and to remind him that his worth isn’t found in what he does or consumes, but in who Christ says he is. For you, precious sister, we pray for peace that guards your heart and for the endurance to keep believing for his healing, even when it feels overwhelming.

Lord, we trust You to work in ways we can’t see yet. Break the hold of alcohol in his life and replace it with Your joy. Bring discipline and health to his body, and most of all, draw him close to You. Let this season lead him to a place of real freedom and purpose. In Jesus’ name.
