How To Give Up Problems To The Lord

I need to know how to give up my problems to the Lord. I don't mean to sound stupid, but it seems so simple yet confusing to me. It is easy to say "I give it all up to the Lord" But how do I know if I really have? I try hard to listen, really listen, but I feel I must be doing something wrong not to hear what I need to hear. I have faith in God and have always heard "He will not bring you to it and not bring you through it." or "When a door closes, a window opens" I pray a lot and believe He hears prayers but latley I am confused and need help. In Jesus name Amen
