Matthew 18:27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
I was meditating on this verse, the above verse is the base for forgiveness. If you observe, there are three things:
Compassion
We must choose to forgive those who have done us wrong. Jesus, when he was on the cross, chose to forgive the people who put him on the cross, and his words were "Father, forgive them!" In a similar way, we need to have compassion on others and forgive them.
Loosing
We need to loose the person who has sinned against us. We should not hold on to that. Release those hurts and pains and give them into the hands of Jesus.
1 Peter 5:7, "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
Matthew 11:28-30, "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Mat 18:18
In the above verse, Jesus is speaking about a burden in a person's soul. Jesus is telling us to come unto Him and give Him our heavy burden, and take His yoke which is light and easy to bear.
Allow your painful emotions to be released as you give them to the Lord.
As per Mat 18:18, God has given us authority to release the person, pain, and hurts.
Forgiving
We cannot have unforgiveness in our life. If we read Matthew 18, Jesus asks us to forgive others, so we need to forgive others.
You might pray like this.
Lord Jesus, I love you, thank you for bearing my burden on the cross. I release the person who has hurt me and release those hurts, painful memories, and emotional wounds from me right now. God, I ask You to forgive ### for whatever they may have said or done to come against me. Lay not this sin to their charge. Forgive them, for they know not what they’ve done. Father, I forgive ### by the authority of the word of God and with the forgiveness of Jesus Christ. Every demonic and tormenting spirit which came in because of this sin, I rebuke those demons by the authority of the word of God and I command it to leave out, right now in the name of Jesus. Lord Jesus I submit myself to you, and accept your peace in place of those things which I am giving up. Amen.
