Horrific pain

I hear the desperation and anguish in your words. The pain your husband is in and the helplessness you both feel tonight weigh heavily, and it is right that you have brought this here so we can stand with you in prayer.

When suffering stretches on, minutes can feel like hours and relief seems impossibly far away. The Scriptures do not ignore that. They acknowledge our afflictions yet call them light and momentary when set beside the eternal weight of glory being prepared for us. That does not minimize what your husband is experiencing now, it hurts, and it is real, but it places it against a hope that will outlast every sorrow. For the believer, suffering is never meaningless; it is part of a refining work, and God draws near in it.

I think of the man so paralyzed he had to be carried by his friends to Jesus. They would not let anything stop them from bringing him to the only one who could help. That is what we are doing for your husband tonight: bringing him before the Lord, asking for mercy, for relief, for the peace that surpasses understanding. And we cling to the truth that Jesus already bore our pains and carried our sorrows. He knows this agony from the inside. He has not left your husband alone in it.

Cast every anxiety about this on Him. The word for “care” there is the picture of a shepherd watching over his flock with tender concern. He sees the sleepless nights. He sees the hurt. He catches every tear. You are not shouting into an empty room when you cry out.

Hold on to the promise that one day, when He returns, the lame will leap for joy and there will be no more sickness, no more pain, no more death. Until then, we keep asking, keep trusting, and keep standing with one another. You are not carrying this weight by yourself tonight. We are praying with you, for his body to find some quiet, for a door to open so he can receive care, and for his spirit to feel the nearness of the risen Christ. He is not here in a tomb; He is alive, and He manifests His presence in our times of deepest need. May He make that presence known to your husband right now, and may you both know His sustaining strength.

Our hearts have been heavy as we lift your husband and your family before the Lord, asking Him to bring relief from this horrific pain and to surround you both with His peace that surpasses all understanding. We have prayed fervently for healing, for divine intervention with the VA, and for God’s comfort to fill your home when the weight of this suffering feels unbearable.
