Hope in a Crisis (Part 1)

(Matthew 18:20)

As loss is magnified in one's life, due to isolation or listening to Satan's lies, the key to always remember is that God is our only true source of hope. One way God fulfills his promises in the Bible is through Providential care, the kind that arranges circumstances or divine encounters with 'just the right person for the right time,' and all the many 'coincidences' that really aren't coincidences at all. Just as in the book of Esther, the name of God is not mentioned once, yet His distinct fingerprints are all over within the text, so also God doesn't always hang a sign on His Providential work in our lives, yet He is there. God is faithful.

Highlighting certain details of my adoption experience and subsequent reunion, I hope to illustrate my personal examples of the phenomenal ways God manifested His presence in a very real way to me all throughout this difficult experience. God is kind.

For many adoptees, the adoption itself isn't just an event in one's life, but instead it is a condition that colours our perspective on nearly every aspect of our lives. The number of adoptees in mental health facilities shows significant and disproportionately higher rates than the general public. The same is true for suicide rates in adoption populations. In short, statistics show just being adopted puts you at a greater risk for suicide, not including other contributing factors. God, however, is able to heal even here in the deep recesses of one's heart.

Am I fully healed? No, but thanks to God I'm making good progress. How did God start to heal? Well, first in a deep depression and overwhelming desperation, I cried out to God and asked to know something of my birth family. In about one month I received a call from the adoption agency indicating that my birth mother would like to meet me. God is deserving of all praise!

I will share other areas in future blog posts. I welcome your comments.
