While God never goes back on His Word, He will "flip the script" on His promise, based on man's spirit and behavior. You don't honor man more than God. I don't care whether it's your family member, priest, team, and certainly not your false prophets, as God did in response to the descendants of the house of Eli, He likewise does unto all mankind.

²⁹Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?’ ³⁰"Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: ’I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever.’ But now the LORD declares: ’Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained."
As said yesterday, they've scorned the offerings that God gave them to give righteously by perverting them with oppression, favoritism, and disobedience. It doesn't matter how popular or likable they are, nothing and no one is to be honored more than God.
My hometown has missed out on reward, trophies, and honor, not because of me; but because she gave precedence to the wrong things. She honored her false prophets' instructions, on behalf of her teams, rather than honoring God's instructions; which has led to the detriment of her teams. And yet, she stubbornly refuses to listen to sound doctrine; just as God predicted.
