We rejoice in your heartfelt cry to the Lord, echoing the apostle Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3:14-20. This passage is a profound declaration of our dependence on the Holy Spirit’s strength and the indwelling presence of Christ. We stand with you in seeking to know the full dimensions of Christ’s love, its width, length, depth, and height, so that we may be filled with all the fullness of God. What a glorious truth! The same power that raised Jesus from the dead works within us, enabling us to live victoriously and walk in the abundant life He has promised.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we bow our knees before You, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. We ask You, according to the riches of Your glory, to strengthen us with power through Your Spirit in our inner being. The dimensions of Christ’s love are vast, wide enough to encompass all people, long enough to last for eternity, deep enough to reach the lowest sinner, and high enough to lift us to heavenly places in Him.

If there are any areas of sin in your life, whether it be unforgiveness, bitterness, sexual immorality, or idolatry, confess them to the Lord and turn away from them. He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Finally, let us encourage one another to live lives that honor God in every aspect. Whether in our marriages, our families, our workplaces, or our communities, may we reflect the love and power of Christ. Let us be bold in sharing the gospel, knowing that it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:16). And let us pray for one another, that we may all grow in the knowledge and love of our Savior.

May the Lord bless you and keep you; may He make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26). Sometimes we can read a passage like this and hope for a single, dramatic moment when all of it lands at once. But the picture here is not of a quick spiritual high; it is of being rooted and grounded, images that speak of slow, hidden growth downward before fruit appears above. The Holy Spirit often unfolds these realities in us over time, not in one service or retreat, but as we simply keep showing up and letting the truth of it work its way into the places we still hold back.

A simple, grounding next step might be to linger with just one phrase from this prayer each morning this week. Read the whole passage, then stop at a short portion: “strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,” or “rooted and grounded in love,” or “filled with all the fullness of God.” Sit quietly with it for a few minutes. Ask the Spirit to make that particular reality more alive inside you and to show you where it is already true in your life, partly or quietly. You have laid hold of the very core of apostolic prayer, and it is a prayer that can never be exhausted. It is well that you have set your heart upon this portion, for it is a ladder reaching from the depths of our necessity to the heights of Divine supply.

Observe where the prayer begins. It fixes its gaze not upon the vessel that must be filled, but upon the Fountain from which the filling comes. The riches of His glory are the measure of the granting. There is a fullness in Christ which precisely answers to this request. There is a fullness of essential Deity, for in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead. There is a fullness of perfect Manhood. A fullness of comfort in affliction, a fullness of guidance in prosperity, a fullness of every Divine attribute, of wisdom, of power, of love. All fullness dwells in Christ, that is to say, it is never exhausted nor diminished.

This strength of the inner man is not a mere duty; it is the sweet constraint of love. It is, dear Friend, a deep sense of our sinfulness, coupled with the perfect consciousness of our forgiveness, that will work in us intense love to Christ. You are loving Him, now, with all your heart, though once you saw no beauty in Him that you should desire Him. I will not say that you ought to love Christ much, rather will I say that I feel sure that you do.

The knowledge of this love which passes knowledge is not a dry, intellectual thing. What we cannot comprehend by our understanding, we apprehend by our affections. It is wonderful, if you love God’s Word, and here you love the very prayer of God’s Word, how things which are stumbling blocks to others cease to be injurious to you. This prayer guards the heart.

And see how the prayer sweeps you into communion with the entire family. Partnership with Christ means we are made joint-heirs with Him. Christ gives us His life, His Father, His Kingdom and His Throne, as part and parcel of the joint-stock company He shares with us. This is one meaning of our being brought into fellowship with our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, let this prayer be its own answer in your soul even now. Aim at getting a word about Jesus Christ with every person you meet with. Show your love to Jesus in some special way. Get to your knees and keep to your knees until this very thing be wrought in you. He who gave you the hunger will surely give you the bread. For He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, and the glory shall be His in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.

You have set before us a mighty supplication, bowing the knee to the Father that you might be strengthened by the Spirit, that Christ might dwell in your heart through faith. This is no small request, nor one granted to those who lie in the soft lap of luxury. Do you not recall how those who sought ease in the wilderness perished, how Sodom was destroyed for fullness of bread and dissolute living, how the rich man burns in the furnace? If you truly desire Christ to take up residence within you, you must put on the Lord Jesus Christ as a garment wrapped about you on every side, so that He becomes everything to you, root, food, life, Bridegroom, and dwelling. For He is our fullness, and in Him we are made complete.

But this indwelling comes at a cost: you must tear away the chains of gluttony, inordinate lust, and worldly ease. The Redeemer stands ready to burst your bonds and set your spirit free, lighter than any wing, but you must contribute earnestness and zeal. Do not deceive yourself: you can, of yourself, choose vice or pursue virtue, and on that choice hangs hell or the Kingdom. Bind the sin that seeks to master you, lest you be bound with indissoluble chains by the anger of God. Instead, make your mouth like Christ’s, that you may command the fire of hell and set foot in Heaven with confidence.

When Christ dwells in you, then you will know the love that surpasses knowledge, its width and length and depth and height, and be filled with all the fullness of God. This is not the knowledge of idle talk but the fruit of a soul rooted and grounded in love, straining forward to the prize of the high calling. Forget the things behind, whether past sins or former laxity, and press on. You seek the riches of His glory; then emulate not gorgeous buildings or costly estates, but men of bold confidence before God, who are poor for Christ’s sake. For He who had power to lay down His life and take it again is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all you ask or think. To Him be glory in the Church, now and forever. Amen.

What you're asking for begins with that strengthening by the Spirit in your inner man. That's where the genuine work happens, far beneath the surface. The Spirit testifies of Jesus, and when He empowers you, the confession that Jesus the Messiah has come in the flesh moves from a statement you agree with to the anchor of your entire being. That inner strengthening is what makes Christ truly at home in your heart through faith. It’s not a visitor’s brief stay, but a settled, comforting presence.

And then, to be rooted and grounded in love. This is the very soil of your life. You want to know the dimensions of Christ’s love, width, length, depth, height, and that is a knowing beyond mental grasp. The word used there is to know by experience. How can you know something that surpasses knowledge? Only by living in it. The proof of God’s love is not found in fleeting emotions but in history: He laid down His life for us. When doubts creep in, look back to the cross. That is where you perceive His love, not that you loved Him first, but that He loved you in all your imperfection and gave Himself for you. You respond to that love because He initiated it all.

The evidence that you have passed from death to life is that this love is being perfected in you. You find a growing, genuine love for the family of God. It’s not about empty words, but a love that shows itself in deed and in truth. That’s how you know you are in Him, when His love flows out through you toward others. The Spirit of God always produces this fruit.

Your request to be filled with all the fullness of God is staggering, something the heavens cannot contain. Yet this is the wonder of His grace toward us. It speaks of a life so yielded that every part is flooded with His presence. In the moments when you can’t trace His hand or understand His purpose, rest on what you do know: you love God, He has called you, and He is good. All things are working together for that good. The Spirit within bears witness that you are His child, giving you confidence even in the mystery.

May you truly experience that Christ dwells in your heart. May the Spirit of God teach you, bring to your remembrance His commandments, and deepen this love in your life. The very fact that you long for these things is evidence of His work. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all you ask or think, according to the power already at work in you.
