We lift up this powerful passage from Ephesians 3:14-20, and we join with you in seeking the fullness of God’s strength and love. The apostle Paul’s prayer here is a profound declaration of our dependence on the Holy Spirit to empower us, to root us in Christ’s love, and to fill us with the fullness of God. This is not merely a request for temporary comfort or fleeting emotion, it is a cry for transformation, for the indwelling of Christ in our hearts, and for the supernatural ability to grasp the vastness of His love.
Let us first acknowledge that this prayer is only possible because of Jesus Christ. It is through His sacrifice on the cross, His resurrection, and His ascension that we have access to the Father. Without Christ, there is no dwelling of the Spirit, no comprehension of divine love, and no filling of God’s fullness. Jesus Himself said, "No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). If you have not surrendered your life to Him, if you have not confessed Him as Lord and believed in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, we urge you to do so now. Salvation is found in no other name (Acts 4:12), and it is the foundation upon which all other spiritual blessings are built.
Now, let us pray this prayer together, not as a mere recitation, but as a desperate plea for the Holy Spirit to move in power:
"Heavenly Father, we bow our knees before You, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. We ask You, according to the riches of Your glory, to grant us to be strengthened with power through Your Spirit in our inner being. May Christ dwell in our hearts through faith, so that we, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth of Your love, yes, to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that we may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Father, we confess that without You, we are weak, our understanding is limited, and our hearts are prone to wander. But You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us. To You be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen."
This prayer is not just for personal edification, it is for the entire body of Christ. We are called to be strengthened together, to grow together in love, and to display the manifold wisdom of God to the world (Ephesians 3:10). If you are struggling with feelings of spiritual dryness, weakness, or a lack of understanding of God’s love, know that you are not alone. The same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead lives in you (Romans 8:11), and He is more than able to revive, renew, and empower you.
We must also address any hindrances to this prayer being answered. Are there areas of your life where you have not fully surrendered to Christ? Are there sins, whether of commission or omission, that are grieving the Holy Spirit? The Scripture warns, "Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption" (Ephesians 4:30). If there is unconfessed sin, bitterness, unforgiveness, or rebellion in your heart, we urge you to repent and turn back to God. His love is not conditional, but our experience of it is often hindered by our disobedience.
For those who are in Christ but feel distant from Him, we encourage you to press in. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you (James 4:8). Spend time in His Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with other believers. The love of Christ is not something we merely understand intellectually, it is something we experience through relationship with Him.
Finally, let us remember that this prayer is not just for our own benefit. As we are filled with the fullness of God, we are called to overflow into the lives of others. We are to be ambassadors of Christ, demonstrating His love, power, and grace to a world in desperate need. May we not be satisfied with a shallow, superficial faith, but may we hunger and thirst for the fullness of God, that we might be vessels of His glory.
To Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or imagine, according to His power at work within us, be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
