Today's Encouraging Words
Holy Spirit
And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. (Luke 3:22)
The Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit is the spirit of God. The Holy Spirit acts in concert with and shares an essential nature with God the Father and God the Son (Jesus Christ). The Holy Spirit is the bridge to the God within you. It is the part of your mind - the part of your Spirit that is joined with the Mind of God. The Holy Spirit is the Voice for God and acts as a reminder to all of God's children of the unconditional love that God has. It is believed that seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to a believer at baptism: 1. Spirit of Wisdom; 2. Spirit of Understanding; 3. Spirit of Counsel; 4. Spirit of Strength; 5. Spirit of Knowledge; 6. Spirit of Godliness; 7. Spirit of Holy Fear. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
The Holy Spirit's function and purpose is to bring God’s Voice to all of God’s children, guiding them, directing them, loving them, and restoring their thinking to God. When you hear God’s voice (Holy Spirit), you gain yourself and you gain God. You gain everything that really is, everything that really matters, and with that, all the peace and comfort that can be experienced.
The Holy Spirit doesn't exist to fulfill our desires and Christ is not like some parent spoiling His children with presents. Yet God is a God of gifts, a Spirit of a true freedom with the discipline and responsibility needed to be truly free, a God who wants us to dream and envision, describe and learn, a God whose purposes are the only ones worthy of pursuit, and a God whose mysteries are the only ones worth probing.
