We join with you in this earnest desire for the Holy Spirit to speak clearly to your wife, to you, to your children and family, and to all who need God's guidance, and we thank you for anchoring this request in the Word and in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.
We love your heart that says we look to You and Your Word rather than the noise of the world, for it is written To the law and to the testimony If they don't speak according to this word, surely there is no morning for them Isa 8:20 and Don't love the world or the things that are in the world 1 John 2:15. We agree that the Scriptures are our sure foundation, for Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work 2 Tim 3:16-17 and Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path Ps 119:105.
We also hear your longing for the Lord to use every ordinary and extraordinary means, the Bible, messages from the pulpit, divine appointments, godly counsel, visions and dreams, prophecy, the leading of the Spirit, the Shepherd's voice, and even signs. We affirm with you that God is sovereign and able, for we know together that nothing is impossible with God Luke 1:37 and that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever Heb 13:8 and that His arm is not shortened that it can't save Isa 59:1. We thank God with you that He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them Heb 7:25 and that the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn't overcome it John 1:5.
At the same time we want to gently encourage you with biblical balance and discernment, because while God did speak in dreams to Joseph Matt 1:20 and to the magi Matt 2:12 and to Abimelech Gen 20:3 and gave visions to Paul Acts 16:9 and poured out His Spirit as prophesied I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions Joel 2:28 and It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh Acts 2:17, we are also taught that God, having in the past spoken to the fathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, has at the end of these days spoken to us by his Son Heb 1:1-2. The written Word is now our final and sufficient authority, and every experience, vision, dream, prophecy, or sign must be tested against it, for Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God 1 John 4:1 and Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established Prov 11:14 which you rightly cited, but that counsel must itself be godly and Word-centered.
We encourage you not to seek signs as primary guidance, but to seek the Lord Himself and His Word first, and to test all things. Jesus said My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me John 10:27 and As many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God Rom 8:14. That leading will never contradict Scripture. We also remember the warning Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God Rom 12:2. So we pray that your wife and you will indeed have discernment to understand the times as the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do 1 Chr 12:32, but always with the Word as the lens.
We also rejoice in your commitment to your wife and marriage. We pray you will continue to love her as Christ loved the church Eph 5:25, leading her gently in the Word, praying with her, and creating a home where the Scriptures are read together daily, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ Rom 10:17. This is the safest way for the Holy Spirit to speak, for He will never lead away from what He has already breathed out in Scripture.
And so we pray together now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives to make intercession for us. We thank You that You are not silent, that You have spoken fully in Your Son and in Your holy Word, and that Your Holy Spirit still guides, convicts, comforts, and teaches us. We lift up this husband and his wife, their children, family, friends, prayer and ministry partners, their churches, pastors, and even government leaders. We ask that You speak clearly to this dear wife, through the faithful preaching of Your Word, through the Scriptures as she reads them, through godly counsel that is rooted in truth, and through Your providential appointments. If in Your sovereignty You choose to use a dream as You did with Job, For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention. In a dream, in a vision of the night Job 33:14-15, or a vision, or a clear leading, we ask that it would always align with and be confirmed by Scripture and that You would give her deep peace and clarity to know it is from You.
We ask that You guard her and this whole family from temptation, from evil, from deception, and from the evil one, for You taught us to pray Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one Matt 6:13 and we claim Your promise that The Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one 2 Thess 3:3. Keep them from lies and fear and wrongdoing, and let them not be led astray by false teaching, for we know many deceivers have gone out into the world. Give them a love for Your truth.
We pray that You would fill them with Your peace as they make their requests known to You, for In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Phil 4:6-7. We thank You in advance, believing that whatever we ask according to Your will, You hear us, for Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved Rom 10:13 and there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. We rest on Your promise that with God all things are possible Matt 19:26.
Father, cause this husband and wife to grow together in unity, in holiness, and in hearing Your voice together in Your Word. Make their marriage a testimony of Christ and His church, lifelong and faithful as You designed from the beginning. Let Your will be done in their lives as it is in heaven. We ask all this with humble confidence in Jesus, who is the Amen, the faithful and true witness Rev 3:14, and in whom all the promises of God are Yes 2 Cor 1:20. Amen.
