Holy Spirit come

How precious is that cry which longs for the Holy Spirit to fill and overflow! For the Spirit is not a shadowy influence, but God Himself, the Comforter sent by Jesus from the Father. He it is who implants the living seed of Divine life, making us partakers of the abundant life which Christ came to bestow. The bleeding Saviour and the indwelling Spirit together prove that our life is not of ourselves, but from above. Never seek it in your own empty cisterns; come again and again to Him who gives without measure.

Yet this filling is no momentary excitement, but a continual receiving. The Spirit, once given, abides as a well of water springing up, but we are leaky vessels and must be replenished. Cry mightily, then, for fresh anointings. As you invite Him to sup with you, see that no unbelief or sin shuts the door against Him. That tender Dove is easily grieved; even our coldness and worldly thoughts vex Him. Walk softly before Him, for if you grieve the Spirit you tear away the seal of your sonship, and your joy leaks away.

And remember, true prayer is praying in the Holy Spirit. Fleshly energy cannot reach the throne; only the Spirit's own breathings, stirred within us, ascend with power. When He comes upon you, you are made strong, strong for holy living, strong for service, strong for suffering. He makes heroes of cowards, and turns trembling believers into lions for the truth.

But mark this above all: the Holy Spirit ever glorifies Christ. He takes of the things of Jesus and shows them to us. He will never lead you to trust your frames or feelings, nor to seek some sign apart from the Cross. He deepens our dependence upon Christ alone. So let your whole life be a magnifying of Jesus, for then the Spirit will work mightily within you. Your cup will overflow indeed, not with the froth of worldly mirth, but with the pure, deep delight of the Lord, sweetened with unchanging love. You have the promise; by faith hold the vessel under the heavenly fountain until it runs over, and others are sprinkled with the blessing. May the Lord grant you this, for Jesus’ sake.
I delight in the lord and give thanks always

Your desire for the fullness of the Holy Spirit is a holy and right one, yet you must first seek what the Spirit Himself wills to give. He does not come to fill your earthly life with overflowing comforts or to grant you worldly abundance. That is not the promise. The Spirit is the earnest of our heavenly inheritance, the seal upon those who belong to Christ, and His work is to make you holy, to slay sin within you, and to cause you to glorify God with a pure and irreprehensible life.

When you ask to be filled, examine what you seek to overflow. Many crave the Spirit for the sake of temporal happiness, but the true filling of the Spirit is seen in those who are emptied of self-will and worldly desire. It is the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus that sets you free from the law of sin and death, not that makes your barns burst with grain. The abundant life Christ promised is not a life of ease or riches, but a life of union with Him, a life that shines with good works so that others may see and glorify your Father in heaven. That is why He taught us first to pray, Hallowed be Thy name, before any petition for our own needs. The tongue that truly invites the Spirit will first cry out for God's glory, then for grace to live as a vessel of that glory.

If you would have the Spirit sup with you, prepare your heart as a table for a King. Cast out the love of money, the clamoring for comfort, and every thought that sets the mind on earthly things. The Spirit does not enter a soul cluttered with cares for this passing world. The rich man had his fill of good things in life and yet in eternity could not obtain a single drop of water. Do not seek to have your cup run over with what moth and rust destroy. Seek instead that spiritual poverty which makes you cry out for the true riches: faith, love, self-control, and all the fruit that the Spirit Himself produces in those who walk according to His leading.

You ask for intercession, and I will pray that God grants you wisdom in this. But know that the Spirit intercedes for you with groanings too deep for words, shaping your desires to match the will of the Father. Yield to that. Do not demand that He fill you on your own terms. Instead, present your body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable, which is your reasonable service. Then the Comforter will come, not with noise and passing warmth, but with the quiet, enduring power that transforms a sinner into a son of God, and makes you a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in light. Let this be your petition: that through the Spirit you may be strengthened with might in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your heart through faith, and that you may be filled with all the fullness of God, to the praise of His glory.

Your prayer is a beautiful echo of God’s own promise. All glory to Jesus, who sent the Holy Spirit as your Comforter and Guide. The very fact that you call Jesus Lord is proof the Spirit is already at work in you, for no one can make that confession except by the Holy Spirit. The desire burning in your heart, for more, for overflowing, for abundant life, is His invitation drawing you deeper.

When you received Christ, the Spirit took up residence within you. Your body became His temple. Now you are asking to be filled until your cup runs over. That overflow is the Spirit’s life pouring out like rivers of living water, touching everything around you. It is the difference between the Spirit simply dwelling inside and His power saturating your words, your thoughts, your very being.

How does this filling become your daily experience? By choosing to be led by the Spirit. The mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, but the mind set on the flesh brings death. You cannot put to death the old habits and desires by your own strength, you need the help of the Holy Spirit. As you sow to the Spirit through prayer, through His Word, through quick obedience to His promptings, you reap everlasting life moment by moment. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, and He will make alive your mortal body and energize you to walk in newness of life.

Remember, your old self was crucified with Christ. You are no longer a slave to the flesh. Now you can live a life ruled and governed by the Spirit. This is your choice, day by day. When the Spirit is uppermost, He bears witness with your spirit that you are a child of God, and you cry out “Abba, Father” with a deep, settled assurance of adoption.

Do not worry about chasing a particular feeling or tarrying for a second experience. The Holy Spirit was poured out once for all on the day of Pentecost, and ever since, every believer receives Him the moment they are born again. The filling is a continuous yielding, a fresh surrender of every corner of your heart. Do not quench the Spirit by pandering to the flesh or ignoring His still, small voice. Instead, let His fruit flourish: love, joy, peace.

My prayer joins yours: Holy Spirit, fill this dear one to overflowing. Let the mind of the Spirit be in control. Let the love of God flow forth in everything they do. May they walk in the Spirit daily, not fulfilling the lust of the flesh, but knowing the power of the life of the Spirit. Abundant life is yours indeed in Jesus Christ. Amen.

We are deeply grateful for the privilege of standing in agreement with you as you seek the fullness of the Holy Spirit in your life. It is a joy to lift up your heart’s cry—to be filled to overflowing, to walk in the abundant life Christ has promised, and to experience the comfort and guidance of the Spirit in ever-deeper measure. Your prayer is a beautiful declaration of faith, and we have joined with you in asking the Lord to pour out His presence afresh, that you may know His nearness, His power, and His peace in every area of your life.

As the days have passed, we continue to hold this request before the throne of grace. If the Holy Spirit has moved in a tangible way—if you’ve felt His refreshing, His wisdom, or His strength in new ways—we would be so encouraged to hear your praise report. There is nothing more uplifting than witnessing God’s faithfulness in answer to prayer.

If, however, you are still longing for that overflow, that deeper filling, or the provision you’ve asked for, please do not hesitate to post this request again. We are here to stand with you, to intercede on your behalf, and to trust with you that the Lord hears and will answer in His perfect timing and way. The Holy Spirit is our Helper, our Advocate, and our Comforter, and He delights in drawing near to those who seek Him.

May the Lord bless you abundantly as you press into His presence. May you sense His love surrounding you, His peace guarding your heart, and His power at work within you. We pray that you would experience the fullness of life that is yours in Christ, and that every need—spiritual, emotional, and material—would be met according to His riches in glory. In Jesus’ unmatched name, we pray. Amen.
