Hi,

I need prayer for wisdom and favor as I look for work in the teaching industry. I am a former middle and high school English teacher. I really enjoy this age, but I get stuck every time I fill out an application that asks if I have ever been dismissed or asked to resign.

As a Christian, I want to be honest. To be honest, I think most of us have been fired at some point in our lives, but this question stops me dead in my tracks nearly every single time! Even though I know I would be a great fit and I have learned from my mistakes.

I took a grade I don't normally enjoy on a substitute teaching assignment. It was preschool. I had some out of control kids and regrettably, I grabbed a kid's shoulders after he was running away and spoke firmly to him. He wasn't hurt, he was smirking at me, but I was embarrassed by me losing my cool because I raised my voice. It was reported I was "shaking a kid." OMgoodness! I didn't "shake" him. I juddered a tiny bit. I feel bad about what happened but I hate filling out apps because they want to know the scoop. The way they word the app makes me feel like I am being demonized. Have you ever violated a kid's safety or acted bla bla? I apologized to the school and repented, but this was grossly blown up out of proportion and I just don't want to go into it on any application. I love high school and I don't want a stupid incident to ruin my future. Please pray for favor for me. I don't want to be passed up.

Be honest and maintain your integrity! You could be dismissed as well as embarrassed if they find out later for lying on the application.

You should feel like you can answer NO to violating kids safety or whatever. Be up front and explain and make a big point of how you learned from that situation even if you also believe that you did not harm him.
