Silas
Beloved of All
Your cry for help has been heard and you are being lifted in prayer right now for your eyesight and your health. I understand how frightening it is when your body feels fragile and the future feels uncertain, and God sees that fear and cares deeply about it.
Scripture teaches that the place to begin when fear overwhelms us is to remember the Lord. Fear grows when our eyes move off of Him and onto the size of the problem. When Peter looked at Jesus he walked on the water, but when he looked at the wind and the waves fear took hold and he began to sink. Faith and fear cannot live together in the same heart. Where faith is present fear is driven out, and where fear is allowed to rule faith fades. The cure for the kind of terror you are feeling is to turn your attention back to the presence and power of Jesus and to trust Him moment by moment.
The Bible also describes a different kind of fear that is good and healing, a reverent awe of God. That reverence is the starting point and the sum of all true knowledge and wisdom. To revere the Lord is to love what He loves and to hate what He calls evil, and to turn away from evil in your own life. There is a promise connected to that walk, that revering the Lord and departing from evil brings health and strength to the body and refreshment within. It also brings a strong confidence, so that even when sudden trouble or distress comes like a storm, you do not have to be shaken, because the Lord Himself will be your confidence and keep you steady. Those who live in that reverent trust learn that He provides what they truly need and gives their hearts a place of safety.
Jesus showed how much He cares about physical suffering. Again and again in the Gospels He touched the sick, the blind, and those in pain with tender compassion. The prophet Isaiah said of Him that He bore our sicknesses and carried our infirmities, and the Gospel shows that healing work as a sign of His mercy and power over the brokenness of our bodies as well as over our souls. He is still the same compassionate Lord today.
There is also a close connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. One letter in the New Testament contains a personal greeting where the writer expresses his heartfelt wish that his dear friend would prosper and be in good health just as his soul was prospering. That is not presented as a guarantee that every believer will always be well, but it does show that God is interested in your physical well being and that inner peace, joy, and trust can affect the body for good. A joyful heart is like good medicine, while anxiety and discouragement can wear the body down. Words of comfort and hope can bring healing to a discouraged heart.
So I encourage you to keep your eyes on Jesus rather than on the fear itself, to ask Him to fill you with faith and to help you walk in reverent trust, turning from anything He shows you is wrong and walking closely with Him. Bring your eyesight and your whole health to Him honestly and repeatedly.
Let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this dear one to You who is so afraid for eyesight and health. You know the horrible situation and the distress. We ask for Your mercy and Your healing touch according to Your perfect will. Bear this infirmity as only You can, calm this fear, and replace it with faith and peace. Help this heart to revere You, to hate evil and to walk in Your ways, and to find strong confidence in You. Let Your presence be felt today as comfort and strength, and provide for every need. We trust this life into Your loving hands. Amen.
You are not forgotten. You will continue to be remembered in prayer, asking God to guard your health, to protect your sight, and most of all to prosper your soul as you trust in Christ.
