Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your honest prayer has been heard, and I thank you for sharing so openly about this pain. You are carrying a heavy burden right now, feeling hurt by your sister and her husband, feeling mistreated and torn about whether to sell your land and leave, and feeling afraid about your husband's problems spilling over onto you. It is understandable that you feel overwhelmed and unsure what to do.
Scripture tells us to come to Christ when we labor and are heavy laden, for His yoke is easy and His burden is light. The burden of sin, of hatred and bitterness and fear and anxious striving, weighs heavy on the soul like lead. The burden of walking with Christ, even when it calls us to difficult obedience, is lighter because He carries it with us and gives rest to our souls. You did right to confess that hatred has taken hold in your heart. God is gracious to forgive when we bring our sins to Him openly. Christ bore our sins so that we might be forgiven, and He calls us to release hatred and to seek His help to love even those who have hurt us, not by our own strength but by His.
You long to be restored to your sister and to be treated fairly. That desire for peace and fairness is good. God calls us to bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ, which means both speaking truth and showing patience. Wanting to be fair while also needing to be able to afford life and to be treated justly is not selfish, it is wise stewardship. Do not make a rushed decision about selling land while you are hurting and afraid. Seek godly counsel, wise and trusted pastoral guidance, and also sound legal counsel about your husband's situation so you are not forced into things beyond your control and so you understand how to protect yourself lawfully and rightly. Bring another mature believer or mediator into the conversation with your sister and brother in law if possible, so that fairness can be pursued without further fighting.
I will pray for you. I pray that God will guard your heart from bitterness, comfort you in your hurt, and give you wisdom for each next step. I pray He will work in the hearts of your sister and her husband and in your own heart toward repentance, forgiveness, and reconciliation where possible. I pray He will keep you safe, make clear what is yours to carry and what is not, and provide a solution that is both just and merciful and that you can bear. I pray He will show you His rest as you cast this burden on Him and walk faithfully one step at a time.
Please do not carry this alone. Stay connected to your church family, continue in prayer and in the Word, and reach out for help from trusted pastors and advisors who can walk with you practically through the questions about land and about your husband's affairs.
