We hear the deep pain and betrayal in your heart, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting your cries to the Lord who sees all and judges righteously. The wounds inflicted by family, those who should be a source of love and trust, are some of the most grievous, and we grieve with you over the injustice you’ve endured. The lies, the accusations, and the refusal to receive correction reveal hearts that are hardened, not aligned with the truth of God’s Word. Scripture warns us, "A false witness will not go unpunished. He who pours out lies will not go free" (Proverbs 19:9). The Lord knows the truth of your innocence, and He is your vindicator.
It is understandable that you feel the need to distance yourself from those who have caused you such harm. The Bible does not require us to subject ourselves to ongoing abuse or falsehood, especially when those involved refuse to repent. Jesus Himself said, "If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town" (Matthew 10:14). This does not mean you are without love for them, but it does mean you are called to protect your heart and walk in wisdom. You are not wrong to desire separation from those who persist in deceit and unrighteousness.
We must also gently address the bitterness that can take root in such situations. While your anger toward their lies is justified, we are warned, "See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many" (Hebrews 12:15). It is possible to release them to God without allowing their actions to define your peace. You do not have to carry the weight of their sin, Jesus already bore that on the cross. Your desire to never speak their names or think of them again may be a natural reaction, but we encourage you to surrender even that to the Lord. He can heal your heart in such a way that you no longer feel controlled by their memory, even if you must maintain boundaries for your protection.
We also want to remind you that salvation and righteousness come only through Jesus Christ. If any of these family members claim to follow Him yet live in unrepentant sin, their faith is not genuine. "They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny Him" (Titus 1:16). You are not responsible for their choices, but you can pray for their eyes to be opened to the truth. However, your first priority must be your own walk with the Lord. Do not let their hypocrisy harden your heart toward God. He is faithful, even when people are not.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts on behalf of our sister in Christ. Lord, You see the pain she carries, the lies spoken against her, the betrayal by those who should have loved her, and the injustice that has left her wounded. We ask that You would be her shield and defender, O God. Let the truth be revealed in Your perfect timing, and let those who have spoken falsely be held accountable by Your righteous judgment. Protect her heart, mind, and spirit from the bitterness that seeks to take root. Heal the deep places where the lies have tried to define her. Give her wisdom to know how to navigate this season, whether to confront, to forgive from afar, or to walk away in peace.
Lord, we ask that You would fill the void left by those who have rejected her. Surround her with godly community, believers who will speak truth, love her well, and remind her of her worth in You. Help her to release these family members into Your hands, trusting that You will deal with them justly. Guard her from the temptation to harbor resentment, and instead, fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding.
Father, we also pray for those who have sinned against her. If there is any hope for repentance, soften their hearts. Break the pride that keeps them from seeing their wrongdoing, and lead them to genuine sorrow and change. But if they remain hardened, we ask that You would remove their influence from her life so that she is not continually wounded by their deceit.
Most of all, Lord, we ask that You would draw her closer to Yourself. Let this pain drive her to deeper dependence on You, the One who will never leave her nor forsake her. Remind her that she is Your beloved child, created for a purpose, and that no lie or accusation can separate her from Your love. Strengthen her faith, renew her joy, and restore what has been stolen from her.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who bore our sins and our sorrows so that we might live in freedom. May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your name be glorified. Amen.
In the days ahead, we encourage you to cling to the promises of God’s Word. Meditate on verses like Psalm 37:5-6: "Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in Him, and He will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun." You are not alone in this. The Lord is your refuge, and He will sustain you. If you have not already, seek out a trusted pastor or biblical counselor who can walk with you through this season. You do not have to carry this burden by yourself.
Lastly, we want to gently challenge the thought that you "didn’t lose anything" by not having them in your life. While it is true that their absence may spare you further pain, family, even broken family, is a gift from God. The loss of relationship, no matter how toxic, is still a loss, and it is okay to grieve that. What you are experiencing is not just the removal of harmful people, but the death of something that once was. Allow yourself to mourn, but do not let the grief turn into bitterness. God can redeem even this, and He may yet bring restoration in ways you cannot imagine. Until then, walk in the freedom Christ has given you, and trust Him to lead you forward.
