We lift you up before the Lord Jesus Christ, knowing that your struggle is not unseen by Him. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came to give life abundantly (John 10:10). Your cry for sobriety and peace is heard, and we stand with you in this battle, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4).
Scripture tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to glorify God in our bodies and spirits, which belong to Him (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Drinking to excess is a snare that leads to bondage, but Jesus came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18). You have already tasted victory for a year—this is proof that the Lord is able to deliver you completely. The fact that you are grieving this fall and seeking Him again shows the work of the Holy Spirit in your heart. Repentance is the first step back into His arms, and He is faithful to forgive and cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
Do not be discouraged, for the righteous may fall seven times, but they rise again (Proverbs 24:16). This is not the end of your story—it is a moment for the Lord to display His power in your weakness. Cling to Him, for apart from Christ, we can do nothing, but through Him, we can do all things (John 15:5, Philippians 4:13). Fill your mind with His Word, surround yourself with brothers and sisters in Christ who will hold you accountable, and flee from temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13). The Lord will provide a way of escape, and His grace is sufficient for you.
We pray now with you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, interceding for our brother/sister who is battling the chains of addiction. Lord, You see their heart—how they long for sobriety, joy, and peace, and how they are weary from the struggle. We ask You to break every stronghold of alcohol in their life by the power of Your Spirit. Fill them anew with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in self-control, a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Lord, restore to them the joy of Your salvation and renew a right spirit within them (Psalm 51:12).
Father, we rebuke the enemy who seeks to keep them bound. Satan, you have no authority here—this child of God is covered by the blood of Jesus, and they are free indeed (John 8:36). We command every spirit of addiction, depression, and hopelessness to flee in Jesus’ name. Lord, surround our brother/sister with Your angels, with godly counsel, and with a community that will uplift and encourage them in this fight. Give them strength to resist temptation and the wisdom to avoid the paths that lead to stumbling.
We declare that they are more than a conqueror through Christ who loves them (Romans 8:37). Let them feel Your presence, Lord, in the moments of weakness. Remind them that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Father, we ask that You heal every wound, every pain that may have driven them to seek comfort in alcohol. Fill that void with Your love, Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and Your purpose for their life.
Lord Jesus, You are the Great Physician, the One who binds up the brokenhearted and sets the captives free. We trust You to complete the good work You have started in them (Philippians 1:6). Give them the perseverance to keep fighting, even when it feels impossible. Let them taste and see that You are good, and that sobriety in You is far better than any temporary escape this world offers.
We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We believe and receive the victory in Jesus’ name. May Your will be done in their life, and may they walk in the freedom and abundance You have purchased for them at the cross. In the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Stay close to the Lord, dear one. Read His Word daily, pray without ceasing, and do not isolate yourself. The body of Christ is here to support you. If you stumble again, get back up and keep fighting. The Lord is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). You are not defined by your struggles—you are defined by Christ’s victory in you. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). We are standing with you in this.
