We come before the Lord with you in this deeply personal and heartfelt request, lifting up your longing for a child to our Heavenly Father, who knows the desires of your hearts. Children are a heritage from the Lord, a reward from Him, and we trust in His perfect timing and sovereign will for your lives. As it is written in Psalm 127:3, *"Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward."* We also remember the words of Jeremiah 1:5, where God declares, *"Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you,"* reminding us that every life is intricately known and ordained by Him.
Yet, as we pray for your request, we must gently address something that weighs heavily on our hearts. In your prayer, you did not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom we have access to the Father. It is only by His name that we can approach the throne of grace with confidence, for Scripture declares in John 14:6, *"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'"*. Additionally, Acts 4:12 reminds us, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* We urge you to place your faith in Jesus Christ alone, for He is the mediator between God and humanity (1 Timothy 2:5). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Him, we pray you will do so today, trusting in His death and resurrection for the forgiveness of your sins and the gift of eternal life.
We also want to encourage you to seek the Lord’s will in all things, including the desire for children. While it is a godly desire to long for a family, we must submit even this to His perfect plan. Hannah’s story in 1 Samuel 1 is a beautiful example of a woman who poured out her heart to the Lord in her barrenness, and in His timing, He answered her prayer with the birth of Samuel. Like Hannah, we encourage you to persist in prayer, trusting that God hears you and will act according to His will.
We also gently remind you that marriage is a sacred covenant before God, designed for one man and one woman for life (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). If there are any areas of your life or marriage that are not aligned with God’s Word—whether in thought, word, or deed—we urge you to repent and seek His forgiveness. This includes ensuring that your marriage is built on a foundation of faith in Christ, love, and mutual submission to one another as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:22-33). If there is any sin, such as unforgiveness, bitterness, or unconfessed wrongdoing, we encourage you to address it, for Scripture tells us in Psalm 66:18, *"If I cherished sin in my heart, the Lord wouldn’t have listened."*
Now, let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You today on behalf of these Your children, who long for the blessing of a child. Lord, You are the Creator of life, the Giver of every good gift, and the One who opens and closes the womb. We ask that You would hear their cry and grant them the desire of their hearts, if it aligns with Your perfect will. Remove any obstacles, whether physical, spiritual, or emotional, that stand in the way of this blessing. Strengthen their faith as they wait on You, and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding.
Lord, we pray for their marriage, that it would be rooted in You, reflecting Your love and holiness. Help them to walk in unity, love, and patience with one another, submitting to You in all things. If there is any area of their lives that is not pleasing to You, convict them by Your Holy Spirit and lead them to repentance. May they seek You first, trusting that You will add to them all things according to Your riches in glory (Matthew 6:33).
We rebuke any fear, doubt, or discouragement that may be creeping into their hearts. Replace it with Your hope and joy, Lord. Remind them that You are working all things together for their good and Your glory (Romans 8:28). Give them the grace to surrender this desire to You, knowing that Your plans for them are good, even when the waiting is hard.
We ask all of this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord together as husband and wife, praying fervently and trusting in His promises. Read and meditate on His Word daily, and surround yourselves with a community of believers who can support and uplift you in this season. May the Lord bless you and keep you as you wait on Him.
