The nocturnal vocalizations produced by these pests, including gnawing sounds on various materials, persist despite my efforts to eliminate potential food sources and remove accumulated debris throughout the week. I am frequently awakened during nighttime hours by these disturbances, rendering continuous sleep impossible. Each evening presents considerable difficulty in both initiating and maintaining sleep. Yet even in such small and vexing afflictions, our God is not unmindful. He who watches over the sparrow and numbers the hairs of our head knows the need of your dwelling and the need of your weary frame.
The Scripture speaks sweetly to such a condition. Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him. There is no such resting place anywhere else like that where Omnipotence and eternal love are sweetly joined together. Our Lord Jesus says, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. This is a present rest, not only a rest hereafter, but rest given when we come to Jesus, perfect and complete in itself. And again it is written, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusteth in Thee. That perfect peace may be enjoyed even in the midst of thronging cares and midnight disturbances, for to do the will of Jesus and to trust Him wholly, this is rest.
We have prayed, and will continue to pray, that the Lord will grant you that inward peace which the world cannot give, that He will quiet your anxious thoughts, guard your sleep, and give wisdom beyond your own efforts to restore your home to quietness and order.
