Help me stop debating

We hear your honest confession about this struggle with debating and we join with you in bringing it before the Lord, asking for His help to overcome this habit. We know how easily the desire to be right, to have the last word, or to prove a point can take hold of us and lead us away from peace.

The Word warns us about this very tendency. We are told to refuse foolish and ignorant questionings, knowing that they generate strife, 2 Timothy 2:23. And again, shun foolish questionings, genealogies, strife, and disputes about the law, for they are unprofitable and vain, Titus 3:9. The Lord does not call His servant to quarrel, but to be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 2 Timothy 2:24. Often a habit of debating is rooted in pride and a love for our own opinions rather than love for others, for a fool has no delight in understanding, but only in revealing his own opinion, Proverbs 18:2. We must gently rebuke that spirit of strife in ourselves, for God calls us to do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility each counting others better than himself, Philippians 2:3.

We want to encourage you that God is able to change this habit as you yield to the Holy Spirit. Self-control is part of the fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5:22-23, and He can give you power to pause before you speak. We encourage you to practice being quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, James 1:19, and to remember that a gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger, Proverbs 15:1. Before entering a conversation that could become a debate, we encourage you to silently pray and ask the Lord whether speaking will build up or tear down, whether it will bring unity or division, and whether it is motivated by love. Sometimes the most godly response is to listen with humility, to agree to disagree in love, or to simply remain silent and entrust the outcome to God.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. There is no other name by which we can be saved and no other way to approach God except through Jesus Christ who died for our sins and rose again. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ alone for forgiveness and for power to overcome every habit that entangles you.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this dear one who desires to be free from a habit of debating. Lord, forgive us for the times we have spoken from pride, from a contentious spirit, and from a desire to exalt ourselves. Create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and produce in us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Help us to be quick to listen and slow to speak, to speak the truth in love when You call us to speak, and to have the wisdom to remain silent when speaking would only cause strife. Teach us to be peacemakers who pursue what makes for peace and for the building up of others. Give us humility to count others as more important than ourselves and to trust You with the need to be understood or vindicated. We ask this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We hear how weary you are of this pattern, and we appreciate your honesty in naming it. Wanting to step out of constant debating takes humility, and God honors that desire to grow.

Often the urge to debate is not really about the topic at hand. That internal conversation we all carry can quickly turn a disagreement into something personal, like we have to prove we are right or defend ourselves. Noticing that conversation is a good place to start.

One simple practice that helps many people is to quietly observe what happens around the habit for a week. When you feel the pull to debate, pause just long enough to notice what was happening right before, what you were feeling in that moment, and what happened right after you engaged or chose not to. You do not need to fix it in the moment, just notice. Over a few days a pattern usually appears, maybe certain topics, being tired, or feeling dismissed, and seeing it more clearly makes it easier to choose a different response next time.

We are praying for you as you practice this, and we are grateful you reached out.

Father, we lift our brother before You and ask for Your help to quiet the impulse to argue and to give wisdom in each conversation. Give calm, clear words when to speak and grace when to remain quiet, and shape his heart to love peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Lord Yeshuas name. Heavenly Fathers name. Thank you God. Thank you Father for loving us. And for sending Lord Yeshua to suffer for us that he could be the righteousness in us. That i could marry a girl who's very sweet but doesn't know you yet that you would reveal yourself to her because she is so loved. And also Lord bevause you protect us so that your flock would not perish from the doom judgement. Which would have encompassed us about to wipe us from the planet. God you know that wothout you I boasted myself for justice and righteousness and desired after good things but that without you I was not able to even be sober. Maybe I was able to be sober of my own self seemingly so but God was truly at work in my life. And you know withoit you I could never be chaste. And the trials of my life that has pushed me further into madness and chaos and hardships was chastity but how you met me here to make a way through it. Through the wilderness of life. Thank you God. Lord Yeshuas name. Amen.

You made her to be a flower. You made her gentle and lovable and soft and you made a plave for her in your kingdom and saved love alive. More than that you brought in oeople into your kingdom who didn't deserve it or couldn't come in without you. And you washed them clean and made them reborn and made them called by your name and gave us a new name. Lord Yeshuas name amen. Only God could inscribe lobe in her heart in such bold letters. Im very grateful. Thank you God also for my jobs at work. Lord Yeshuas name amen.

There is mercy in the very sight you have been given of this snare, for many contend and yet never confess that their tongue has mastered them. To feel that debating has become a nasty habit is a work of grace, and grace that shows the disease will also provide the cure.

The tongue is a little member and boasts great things, and the love of contention often feeds upon pride, the desire to be thought wise or to have the last word. Scripture bids us to be swift to hear and slow to speak, and to avoid foolish questions and strifes which minister no profit but gender contention. You do well to desire deliverance.

You must learn, as the saints must, to overcome evil with good. This morning we may speak of overcoming evil, and in the evening of overcoming Him who is Goodness itself, but the weapons are not carnal. In the battle with evil there is much for us to do by Divine grace, yet not by striving louder but by doing good in its place. When provoked to debate, answer with gentleness, or answer not at all. A soft answer turns away wrath, and often silence is the most eloquent testimony to grace.

Take up then this holy resolve, to hold your tongue or else to change your line of argument. When the old habit rises and would draw you into wrangling, say within your heart, I will not sit to hear strife nourished, nor will I give place to it. Let the opportunity for debate become an opportunity for prayer. Before you reply, lift your eyes to the Lord Jesus Christ for all things. Worldlings know Him only as one who lived long ago, but to us He is alive, our familiar Friend, present in the moment of temptation. Give Him that overcoming glance of faith which looks to Him for meekness and wisdom, and He is overcome by it in love and will supply what you lack.

Practically, set a watch before your lips. In conversation, purpose to listen more than to speak, to ask whether what you would say is true, needful, and edifying. If it will not build up, let it pass. If you must speak, speak the truth in love, not to win a point but to win a soul. And when you fail, as you will at times, run at once to the blood that cleanses and begin again.

We will pray for you, that the Lord who hates the abominable thing of strife and pride would make you to hate it also for His sake, and that He would clothe you with the meekness of Christ, so that no weapon formed against your peace shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against you, even your own, shall be brought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. May He keep you from vain jangling and make your speech always with grace, seasoned with salt, to the glory of His name.
