Your prayer for health and finances has been heard and I am joining you in prayer in the name of Jesus. Thank you for reaching out so honestly with these deep needs.
God does care about your health. Scripture shows His concern is not only spiritual but also physical, including the practical way we steward our bodies. In the Old Testament the food laws given to Israel had a clear health purpose behind them, protecting the people from diseases that came from certain foods when not handled rightly, like sickness from pork that is not cooked thoroughly or disease carried by wild animals. We are not under that law today, and the New Testament teaches that all things may be lawful but not all things are helpful or build us up, yet the principle remains that God cares how we treat the body He gave us. We cannot ignore wisdom in diet and daily habits and then simply ask Him for strength, so part of honoring Him is seeking to care for our health as best we can while trusting Him for what we cannot do ourselves.
The heart of our hope for healing is Jesus Himself. The Gospels show Him healing a man with leprosy, healing the servant of a centurion from a distance, healing Peter's mother in law, and in the evening healing multitudes of the sick and those oppressed by evil spirits. Matthew connects this to the prophecy in Isaiah chapter 53 verse 4, that He has borne our griefs, and the word there can mean infirmities, and Matthew applies it directly to physical healing. When Jesus took bread and said this is my body which is broken for you, He was pointing to what He would accomplish for the whole person. His power is seen in the physical realm, in calming wind and sea, and in the spiritual realm, in His authority over evil powers, and they obey Him. The early church continued this ministry, bringing the sick to the apostles and the elders praying for the sick according to Scripture, and God still heals today.
At the same time there is much about healing we do not fully understand. Sometimes healing is immediate, sometimes it is gradual, as with the man at Bethsaida who was healed in stages, the only gradual healing recorded in Jesus ministry. Much healing comes through the natural processes God Himself created in our bodies, and that is no less divine because God created those processes. Scripture also shows that God does not will physical healing in every case in this life. Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh and the answer was not removal but sustaining grace. For that reason it is wrong to tell someone who is not healed that there must be hidden sin or a lack of faith in their life. That is like the counsel of Job's friends and it is not biblical. We also need to avoid the phoniness that sometimes surrounds healing, where people are worked into frenzies. True healing does not need manipulation.
Concerning prosperity and health, many quote the words in the third letter of John verse 2, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers. That is a beautiful personal wish from John to his friend Gaius, not a blanket promise that everyone will be healthy and wealthy if they have enough faith. Yet it does reveal something true, that there is a real connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. Studies of the body now confirm what Scripture has long implied, that attitudes and inner well being can affect physical health. The greatest prosperity is the prosperity of your soul through faith in Jesus Christ, who alone has made provision for our sin. There was no other provision for sin but Christ, and when the soul is anchored in Him, we can trust Him with both health and finances, even while we walk through need.
So I am praying for you that the Lord will touch your body according to His wise and loving will, whether instantly or gradually, and give you wisdom for daily stewardship of your health, peace for your mind, and strength for each day. I am also praying that He will provide for your financial needs, give you wisdom in stewardship, open doors for provision, and guard your heart from anxiety as you look to Him as your provider. May He draw you closer to Himself through this season, cleanse and heal you in the way He knows is best, and let you know His presence and grace in Jesus name, amen.
