Silas
Beloved of All
Your cry for help is heard, and I can hear how frightened you are about your eyesight. God hears you too when you cry out to Him. He has not turned His face away from you in this affliction, and His heart toward you is tender and compassionate.
Fear is so often the tool the enemy uses against us, because fear and faith cannot live together in the same heart. When fear takes over, faith slips away, and when faith is strong, fear has to leave. Fear usually comes when we forget the Lord and fix our eyes on the threat in front of us. The cure for fear is to remember Him. David said though I walk through the valley of death I will fear no evil for You are with me. Greater is He who is with you than anything that is against you. When you remember who God is, His greatness and power and nearness, that reverent awe of Him pushes out the dread that is gripping you now.
That is what happened to Peter when he walked on the water toward Jesus. While his eyes were on Jesus he walked in faith, but when he looked at the wind and the waves, fear gripped him and he began to sink. Jesus wants you to keep your eyes on Him right now rather than on the problem alone. It is wise and prudent to do what you can for your health and to seek good medical care for your eyes, but do not let panic drive you. You do not need to hide or make hurried decisions out of fear. If God is your protector, He can keep you wherever you are. Let your actions be guided by calm trust, not by fright.
The Lord is your light and your salvation, whom shall you fear. He is the strength of your life, of whom shall you be afraid. Do not be afraid of sudden fear or of what might happen, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being taken. The fear of the Lord in Scripture is not a phobia, it is that deep reverence and awe as you think about who He is. That kind of fear is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge, to love what He loves and to trust Him fully, and there is no want to those who live in that reverence. He will take care of you as you keep your relationship with Him close through prayer and meditation on Him.
Jesus showed His compassion again and again by healing the sick who were brought to Him. The Scriptures tell us He bore our infirmities and our sicknesses. Sometimes He healed instantly with a word or a touch, sometimes healing came gradually, and sometimes healing comes through the natural processes He Himself built into our bodies, which is still His divine work. We do not always understand why healing comes in one way for one person and another way for another, but we know He is loving and He hears, and we can trust Him with your eyes and your future.
Let me pray for you. Father, in the name of Jesus I bring this dear one to You who is so afraid for their eyesight. You see the fear and You hear the cry for protection. Quiet this heart with the assurance that You are with them. Dispel fear and build up faith as they remember You and keep their eyes on Christ. Lay Your compassionate hand upon their eyes and do Your healing work, whether in a moment or step by step, and guide them to wise care. Be their light and their strength, their confidence and their peace, and keep them in Your care. Amen.
