We hear your cry and we join with you in bringing it before the Lord, for you have called upon the only name by which we can be saved and that is Jesus. We thank God that even in this dark place you have turned to Him, for He is near to all who call upon Him in truth.
We understand how work can feel like a dark hole, empty and without meaning or truth. Apart from God, labor can feel that way. Scripture speaks to this vanity when the heart is far from Him, yet it also shows us the redeeming purpose God gives to our work when it is done for Him. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24. When work is only for man, for money, or for empty striving, it will feel dark, but when it is offered to the Lord it is established by Him. Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us. Establish the work of our hands for us. Yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17.
You said you see no truth in it, and we want to remind you that Jesus Himself is the truth you are seeking. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. Again He said, I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life. John 8:12. The darkness you feel at work cannot overcome His light when you walk with Him.
We also hear your weariness, and Jesus invites you to rest in Him. Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29. We encourage you to bring this burden to Him daily in prayer, to cast all your worries on Him, because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7. And we encourage you to seek godly counsel, perhaps a pastor or a mature believer, and to guard a time of rest as God modeled, remembering that your worth is not in what you produce but in being a child of God through faith in Christ.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You see the darkness and heaviness surrounding their work and the feeling that there is no truth or purpose there. Lord, shine Your light into this dark hole. Reveal Yourself as the Truth and the Light. Deliver them from despair and give rest to their soul. Forgive their sins and draw them closer to You through Your Son. Establish the work of their hands and show them how to labor for You and not for men, that even ordinary work may have eternal meaning. Give them wisdom to know if there are changes needed in their work, strength to endure where You have placed them, and peace that surpasses all understanding. Guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7. Lead them into Your truth and Your purpose, for we ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and our hope. Amen.
We encourage you to stay close to Jesus through His Word and prayer each day, even when work feels empty. Keep calling upon Him, for He has heard you and He will save and sustain you.
