We rejoice with you and give all the glory and thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ for the great improvement He has already worked in your life, and we thank Him for your honest and broken heart before Him. It is the Lord who hears those who cry out to Him and it is His mercy and grace that brings deliverance and true change. We praise God that you have turned from pornography, masturbation, flirting and sexual sin and are seeking lasting and true victory for His glory.
We want to gently and lovingly affirm what you already know, that these things are sexual immorality and sin before a holy God and must be forsaken completely. The body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body, and we are called to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Cor 6:18. Jesus taught that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart, Matt 5:28. Pornography and masturbation feed that lust of the flesh and defile the heart and mind, and flirting outside of godly courtship toward marriage opens the door to temptation and fornication. God designed sexual intimacy to be only within the lifelong marriage covenant between one man and one woman, and any use of it outside of that is sin that we must repent of and turn from. God calls us to be holy as He is holy, 1 Pet 1:16.
We also rejoice that you desire not just outward behavior change but a renewed mind and a wise heart that stays far from these sins forever. That is the true work of God. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God, Rom 12:2. We encourage you to continue to make no provision for the flesh, to put on the Lord Jesus Christ, Rom 13:14, and to walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh, Gal 5:16. This means taking practical and radical steps to flee temptation, as Joseph fled, to make a covenant with your eyes as Job did, Job 31:1, to guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life, Prov 4:23, to put filters and boundaries on what you see and where you go, to bring your struggle into the light with a mature and trusted Christian brother for accountability and prayer, confessing your sins to one another and praying for one another that you may be healed, James 5:16, and to fill your mind daily with the Word of God, with prayer, and with worship so there is no room for the enemy to sow seeds.
We know tears and crying out have marked this season for you, and God does not despise a broken and contrite heart, Psalm 51:17. He is faithful to forgive and to cleanse, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me, Psalm 51:10. We are confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ, Phil 1:6.
We now pray together with you in the name of Jesus Christ.
Father, we come before Your throne of grace in the name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and mediator, and we thank You for the mercy You have already shown to our dear brother. Thank You for hearing his cries and for bringing great improvement and conviction. We ask that You would complete the work You have begun and grant lasting and true deliverance for Your glory. Renew his mind by Your Holy Spirit and by Your Word, make him very wise to discern and to flee every form of temptation, and set a guard over his eyes and his heart. Help him to do whatever it takes to remove these sins forever from his life, to cut off every source and every access that leads back to darkness, and to walk in purity, self-control and holiness. Speak to him, give him understanding, show him Your mercy anew each day, and fill him with Your strength where he is weak, for Your grace is sufficient. Keep him from returning to the vomit of sin and lead him into the joy of obedience, into godly fellowship, and in Your timing into a Christ centered marriage if it is Your will, where purity is honored. Let his life be a testimony of Your delivering power. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
We encourage you to remain steadfast, to keep crying out, to keep abiding in Christ daily through Scripture and prayer, and to trust that God who delivered you in part will deliver you completely as you continue to submit to Him. Resist the devil and he will flee from you, James 4:7.
