The Shears of Delilah
Midnight Exploration: Third Night
Midnight Exploration: Fourth Night
We give thanks with you to the Lord Jesus Christ for the improvement He has already worked in you, and we join you in giving Him all the glory for it. To see that chains which once held you fast are beginning to break is a sign of His mercy and His power at work, and it is right to thank Him with tears as you have done.

You have cried out much in prayer, and you ask now for lasting and true deliverance, that these sins would be removed forever from your life and heart, that your mind would be renewed and made wise, and that you would be kept far from them. We will pray with you for this, and we urge you to persevere in prayer without growing weary. Even when you do not at once receive what you ask, continue to ask, and when you do receive, continue still, giving thanks. God at times allows temptation to remain for a season not to destroy you but to draw you continually to Himself, so that you will flee to Him and abide with Him. Like a loving father who permits a fear to awaken his child so the child will run to his bosom, so the Lord permits the struggle so that you will keep close to Him.

Know this, that no temptation has taken you except what is common to humanity. God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to bear, but with the temptation He will also make the way of escape, so that you may be able to endure it. The way of escape is often to be found in cutting away what feeds the passion, in guarding the eyes and the heart, in turning away quickly from what entices, and in filling the mind with what is pure and true. The chief sins that war against the soul are born of violent lust, especially the desire of the flesh and the love of money, and they are overcome not by lingering near them but by fleeing them and by being purified and converted through faith and obedience.

Therefore let us pray that God who justifies you through Jesus Christ, and whose Son not only died for you but now intercedes for you, will have mercy on you, speak to you, give you understanding, and grant you full deliverance. May He renew your mind, make you wise to see the snares of the enemy, and teach you to cut away excess and to live in moderation and purity. May He help you to do whatever it takes to remove these sins, to keep your body and heart clean, for the body is meant for holiness, and intimacy belongs only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman.

We pray that the Lord will strengthen you to stand firm, to hate what is evil and cling to what is good, and to walk in the freedom Christ has purchased for you. Continue to cry out to Him, to confess quickly when you stumble, to keep His word before your eyes, and to seek the help of faithful brothers who can encourage you. He who has begun a good work in you is able to complete it.

We are praying for you, that you will know His mercy, His deliverance, and a lasting renewal, and that your life will more and more show the glory of God.

Your honest and broken cry has been heard, and I thank God with you for the improvement He has already brought. All glory belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ for every step of freedom He has given, and it is right to give Him thanks for what He has done and to keep asking Him for lasting and true deliverance for His glory.

What you are describing begins in the heart. Scripture teaches that a person is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed, and when that desire is allowed to remain it gives birth to sin. James also shows that the conflicts and struggles within us come from the lusts that war within us. John explains this further when he says that all that is in the world, the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires are passing away, but the one who does the will of God remains forever. To be a friend of the world in this way is to be opposed to God, so we are called to turn from it completely.

Pornography is one of the most powerful tools the enemy uses to inflame those desires. It is designed to stir up the passions of the flesh and the eyes, and once the door is opened it puts pressure on the heart toward further sexual sin. I have counseled many who found that it took hold of them like a drug, like chains they could not break on their own. It promises pleasure but it enslaves, it damages families and relationships, and it leaves the mind defiled. Flirting, lustful fantasies, and sexual acts outside of God's design all follow that same pattern. God created sex as good, but He placed it within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Outside of that covenant it is not love but lust, and it will always lead away from holiness.

There is hope because Jesus came to set captives free and to wash us. The time past in our lives is enough to have lived to fulfill the desires of the flesh, living for what the lower nature wants. Now in Christ we are called to live no longer for the lusts of men but for the will of God, to walk in purity and holiness even as Christ is pure. This requires more than trying harder in our own strength. It requires the renewing of the mind. God renews us as we are washed by His Word, as we let Scripture fill our thoughts and replace what has defiled us. It means not looking with lust upon beauty that is meant to entice, cutting the temptation off at the very first thought in the heart rather than letting it grow, and fleeing from every place and image and conversation that feeds it.

The purpose of prayer is not to get God to do our will so we can use His help to satisfy our own desires. We sometimes ask and do not receive because we ask to spend what we receive on our own pleasures. True prayer seeks God's will to be done in us. So we come to Him for mercy, not to bargain with Him, but to surrender fully to Him and ask Him to make us wise, to give us understanding, to speak to us through His Word, and to deliver us completely.

Let us pray together for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ I ask for Your mercy upon this dear one who has wept and prayed before You. Thank You for the victory You have already given and for the work You have begun. I ask that You would complete it and make it lasting and true. Renew the mind, wash the heart and thoughts with Your Word, and make this life wise with the wisdom that comes from You. Break every chain of pornography, masturbation, flirting and sexual sin, and keep these sins far away forever. Teach this heart to hate what You hate and to love purity, to flee temptation, to guard the eyes and the heart, and to live for Your will and Your glory. Give understanding, give strength to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the desires of the flesh, and let this life show forth the freedom that is in Christ alone. Amen.

Keep seeking the Lord daily in His Word, bring your struggles into the light with a trusted mature believer who can walk with you and hold you accountable, and when temptation comes, turn immediately to Christ and flee. God is faithful, and He who has begun a good work will be faithful to complete it as you continue to walk with Him.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and we are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer.

We rejoice with you that the Lord has already brought great improvement in your struggle with pornography, masturbation, flirting and other sexual sins and we give all the glory and thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ for what He has done. We praise God that He has heard your prayers and your cries and has shown you mercy.

We continue to stand with you for lasting and true deliverance and complete freedom for the glory of God. We have prayed in Jesus Name that God will help you and guide you to do whatever it takes to remove these sins forever from your life and heart, and that He will renew your mind and make you wise so that these temptations will be far from you. We pray that the Lord will continue to speak to you, give you understanding and deliver you fully, that you may walk in purity and holiness before Him. We claim for you the promise that God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear but will provide a way out so that you can endure it in 1 Cor 10:13, and that He will transform you by the renewing of your mind in Rom 12:2, and create in you a clean heart in Psalm 51:10.

If your request has been answered and you have experienced lasting victory and freedom, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice together and give glory to God. If your request does not yet seem to have been fully answered and you still feel the need for more improvement and complete deliverance, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

We are praying that God will bless you and keep you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ. In Jesus Name we pray that He will keep you close, guard your heart and mind, and lead you into complete freedom and peace. Amen.
