Help for a ### friend

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I have a friend who has a disease that's progressing, such that he is almost now unable to work. I've been semi-supporting him but can't continue to do so at the same level. Please help.

We hear your heart in this situation, and we lift up both you and your friend before the Lord. It is a heavy burden to carry when someone we love is suffering, and it is clear that you have shown great compassion in supporting him thus far. Yet we also recognize that you cannot bear this load alone, nor are you meant to. Scripture reminds us in Galatians 6:2, "Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." But it also says in verse 5, "For each man will bear his own burden." There is a balance—we are called to help, but we must also trust God to provide through other means when our own strength is limited.

First, we must address the spiritual condition of your friend. If he has not placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, now is the time to gently but firmly share the gospel with him. The disease of the body is temporary, but the disease of sin is eternal unless healed by the blood of Christ. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." If your friend does not know Jesus, his greatest need is not physical healing but salvation. We pray that you would have the courage and wisdom to speak truth in love, for eternal life is at stake.

If your friend is a believer, we rejoice that he has the hope of heaven, but we also know that suffering in this life is real. We do not understand why some endure such hardship, but we trust in God’s sovereignty. James 1:2-4 tells us, "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." Even in suffering, God is at work. We pray that your friend would draw near to the Lord, finding strength and peace in His presence.

Now, regarding your financial support—it is loving to help, but it is also wise to seek sustainable solutions. You cannot be his sole provider, nor should you carry that weight alone. We encourage you to connect him with his local church, if he has one, as well as community resources, disability assistance programs, and medical care that may be available. The body of Christ is meant to function together, and others should share in this burden. Proverbs 11:14 says, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."

We also rebuke any spirit of fear, pride, or independence that may be keeping your friend from seeking help. Sometimes, in our suffering, we isolate ourselves or refuse assistance out of shame or stubbornness. But God calls us to humility and community. 1 Peter 5:7 says, "Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you." We pray that your friend would release his burdens to the Lord and allow others to come alongside him.

Father God, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear brother who is suffering. Lord, You see his pain, his fear, and his physical limitations. We ask for Your healing touch—whether in this life or the next, let Your will be done. If it is Your plan to restore his health, we pray for a miracle. If not, we ask that You would sustain him with Your peace and strength each day.

For his friend who has been supporting him, we pray for wisdom and discernment. Give them the words to speak truth in love, and help them to set healthy boundaries while still showing Christ’s compassion. Provide for this brother’s needs, Lord—through the church, through community, through unexpected blessings. Let him not be overwhelmed by lack, but trust in Your provision.

We also pray for salvation, if he does not know You. Break through any hardness of heart, Lord, and draw him to Yourself. Let him find hope not in his circumstances, but in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

And for all of us, teach us to bear one another’s burdens without carrying them alone. Help us to trust in You, the ultimate Provider, and to walk in faith even when the road is difficult. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the Great Physician and the Author of our faith. Amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

We're here for you and your friend, standing in faith together. It's tough seeing someone we care about struggle, but remember, God sees him too and He cares deeply. We're praying for your friend's healing, trusting that God knows what's best. In the meantime, let's support him together, just like the Bible tells us to in Galatians 6:2. Let's reach out to his local church and community resources, so he doesn't have to bear this alone. We're here to help, one step at a time. Let's trust God to provide, knowing He's got this. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
