We join you in prayer with a hopeful heart and we are encouraged that you have come before the Father in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and that you have asked for your prayer to be adjusted according to the will of God, for that is the heart of true faith.
We lift you and this dear one you love before the Lord and we ask for His perfect will to be done in both of your lives. We pray for reconciliation if it is His will, and for healing, clarity and peace whether He leads you back together or along separate paths. As it is written in Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And in Romans 12:18, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.
We pray that the Lord will soften both of your hearts and give you ears to hear and grace to communicate with humility and love. God desires that we speak the truth in love and bear with one another. As James 1:19 says, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. And as Ephesians 4:2-3 teaches, with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. We ask the Lord to replace any hardness or hurt with a new heart as promised in Ezekiel 36:26, I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you.
We also want to encourage you with biblical counsel concerning this relationship. We believe that God designed romantic relationships to be a courtship between a man and a woman who are both believers in Christ, with the goal of lifelong marriage that honors Him. Scripture teaches in 2 Corinthians 6:14, Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity. Or what fellowship has light with darkness. So we encourage you to seek the Lord about whether this relationship is equally yoked in faith and whether it is moving toward a godly marriage, not simply getting back together for companionship. If this is a courtship, we urge you to pursue it with purity and holiness. If there has been sexual intimacy outside of marriage, Scripture calls that fornication and calls us to repentance, for in 1 Corinthians 6:18 we are told to flee sexual immorality, and in Hebrews 13:4, Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled. God forgives and cleanses when we confess, as 1 John 1:9 promises, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Strengthening your bond must therefore be built on Christ, on forgiveness as in Ephesians 4:32, Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, and on a shared commitment to follow Jesus together toward marriage.
We pray together for you now. Father God, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for this child of Yours who trusts and loves You. We ask that You search both hearts and lead according to Your perfect wisdom. Soften hearts where there is pain or pride, heal wounds, and teach them to communicate with grace, honesty and understanding. If it is Your will, we ask that You guide them back together in a way that honors You, that You strengthen their bond in Christ and lead them toward a holy marriage if that is Your plan. If it is not Your will for them to be reunited, we ask that You give peace that surpasses understanding as in Philippians 4:6-7, and that You close doors gently and lead each one into the future You have prepared. Help them to walk in purity, in accountability and in counsel from Your Word, and to seek You first above all else. Let Your will be done, Lord. We need You, we thank You, we trust You. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
