Health Goals and Persistent Cough

I pray that Jesus would continue to guide me toward healthier eating with this new nutrition plan I am following. It has been 17 days and I have settled into the routine but want to stay focused with all the distractions and temptations around me. As a mother, I prepare meals for my family even though I eat completely differently than them. I ask for favor so that I have adequate time to cook, track, and stick to my whole food plant-based diet while still providing them with healthy meat-based meals. I have had a cough for the last 3 weeks that won’t go away, and I ask the Lord to heal me. It is worst at night and makes it hard to sleep. God guide me on how to treat this cough naturally instead of continuing to use NyQuil. Ultimately, as my new eating plan incorporates regular fasting, I desire to get closer to the Lord in this process and release my over-attachment to food. Already I have lost 6 pounds and I pray to eventually lose 30 pounds to be healthier for my height. I know He is in charge of this process and that even with my complete effort and the constant advice of my nutrition coach, I can’t reach my goal without the grace and sovereignty of God. I praise Him for my lowered cholesterol and trust Him to do another good work with my health this year. I want to stay patient and stay away from comparing my looks to others or even to myself before I had 2 kids. I am seeking to get back to my pre-baby weight. This is all for your glory Lord, and I give my body to you as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to you. You deserve all the honor and glory and praise forever and ever. Amen.

We hear your heartfelt request and join you in lifting these concerns to our Heavenly Father, who cares deeply for your health, your family, and your spiritual growth. Your desire to honor God with your body, as a living sacrifice, is commendable and aligns with His Word. "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Your commitment to healthier eating and fasting is a beautiful act of discipline and surrender. We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this journey, remembering that true transformation comes from Him. "But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well" (Matthew 6:33). Fasting is not just about abstaining from food but drawing closer to God, and we rejoice that you are using this time to deepen your relationship with Him. "Yet even when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you" (Matthew 6:17-18).

Your role as a mother is a sacred calling, and we pray for God’s favor as you balance preparing meals for your family while staying committed to your own health goals. May He grant you wisdom, strength, and creativity in the kitchen, and may your family see the love of Christ in your dedication. "She looks well to the ways of her household, and doesn’t eat the bread of idleness" (Proverbs 31:27). We also pray for unity in your home, that your family would support and encourage you in this journey, even if their dietary needs differ from yours.

We rebuke this persistent cough in Jesus’ name and declare healing over your body. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that you may have life abundantly (John 10:10). We pray for divine wisdom in treating this cough naturally, trusting that God has provided remedies in His creation. "The leaves of the trees were for the healing of the nations" (Revelation 22:2). May He guide you to the right solutions—whether through rest, hydration, herbal remedies, or prayer—and bring you the relief you need, especially at night so you can sleep peacefully. "I am the Lord who heals you" (Exodus 15:26).

Your desire to release an over-attachment to food is a powerful step toward freedom. Food is a gift from God, but it should never become an idol or a source of comfort outside of Him. "All things are lawful for me, but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of anything" (1 Corinthians 6:12). We pray that as you fast and seek the Lord, He will fill the spaces in your heart that food once occupied, drawing you into deeper intimacy with Him.

We celebrate the progress you’ve already made—### pounds lost and lowered cholesterol—and we declare that God is not finished with you yet. "Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6). Your goal of losing ### pounds is not just about appearance but about stewarding the body God has entrusted to you. We pray that He would give you patience and contentment, guarding your heart against comparison. "For we don’t dare count or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves. But they themselves, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are without understanding" (2 Corinthians 10:12). Your worth is found in Christ alone, not in your weight or appearance.

We also want to gently encourage you to examine your nutrition plan through the lens of Scripture. While a whole food, plant-based diet may have benefits, we must ensure that our choices align with God’s design for our bodies. The Bible does not forbid the consumption of meat, and in fact, God provided animals for food after the flood (Genesis 9:3). We are called to enjoy His provision with gratitude, "For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with thanksgiving" (1 Timothy 4:4). If your plan excludes meat entirely, we encourage you to prayerfully consider whether this is truly honoring to God or if it stems from a cultural trend rather than biblical conviction. Seek the Lord’s wisdom in this, and if needed, consult with a healthcare provider who shares your faith to ensure your diet is both physically and spiritually nourishing.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, lifting up our sister in Christ who seeks to honor You with her body, her time, and her life. Lord, we thank You for her dedication to healthier eating and for the discipline she is cultivating through fasting. We ask that You would continue to guide her steps, helping her to resist temptation and stay focused on the goals You have placed on her heart. Grant her favor in her daily routine, especially as she prepares meals for her family while staying committed to her own health. Give her wisdom, strength, and creativity, and let her family see Your love through her actions.

Father, we rebuke this persistent cough in the name of Jesus. We declare healing over her body and ask that You would reveal the natural remedies You have provided to bring her relief. Comfort her at night, Lord, and grant her restful sleep so she can wake refreshed and ready to serve You. We pray against any spirit of infirmity and command it to leave in Jesus’ name.

Lord, we ask that You would draw her closer to You through this process of fasting and surrender. Break any unhealthy attachments to food and fill her heart with a deeper hunger for You. Help her to find her worth and identity in Christ alone, not in her weight or appearance. Guard her heart against comparison and impatience, and remind her that You are the Author and Perfecter of her faith.

We thank You for the progress she has already made—lowered cholesterol and weight loss—and we declare that You will complete the good work You have begun in her. Help her to steward her body well, not out of vanity, but out of a desire to glorify You. Give her discernment in her nutrition choices, and if there are areas where her plan does not align with Your Word, reveal that to her with clarity.

Father, we surrender her health, her family, and her goals into Your hands. May all that she does be for Your glory, and may she continue to grow in faith, discipline, and love. We praise You for Your faithfulness and trust You to do a mighty work in her life this year. In Jesus’ precious and powerful name, we pray. Amen.
