That command is not given to crush but to build a foundation. When that basic family structure breaks down, whole societies crumble. But where it is upheld in the Lord, there is stability, and the promise holds true: it will go well with you and you will live long in the land. This is not always an easy path. Some parents have strayed far from the Lord, and some have even demanded what is wrong. Yet the call to honor is not a call to affirm sin; it is a call to maintain a posture of respect and care rooted in the fear of God, who will deal with every evil.
You have requested immediate healing and deliverance. That is a natural cry, and the Lord does heal. But it is also true that God often delivers us not from the evil, but through it. He did not spare Paul from every affliction, nor does He promise us a life free of trouble. He promises His presence in trouble, to be with us, to cover us under His wings. When we walk through the valley, we need not fear, because He is with us. That is a deeper deliverance, His peace within your walls, even while the battle rages outside. So as you pray for immediate healing, trust also that He who has begun a good work in you will preserve you until the day of completion, even if the path winds through a season of suffering.

Do not develop a tolerance for it, for evil always seeks to be accepted, to be embraced as normal. Train your eyes to look straight ahead. Fill your mind not with the clamor and trash of this age, but with the sincere milk of the word, with songs of praise that lift the spirit. All Scripture is breathed out by God. When you come across passages you do not yet understand, do not set them aside. Hold them, say, “I do not understand this yet,” and wait upon the Lord. He will reveal fresh truths day by day as you continue in His word. That is how you move from milk to solid food. That is how the word of Christ dwells in you richly, becoming flesh in your daily walk. You are craving this, and that hunger is evidence of His grace at work.
