A Poor Investment
Israel’s God God’s Israel
A Song, a Solace, a Sermon, and a Summons
We have heard your request for healing as you prepare to undergo chemotherapy and we are joining together to lift you up before our heavenly Father in Jesus' name.

We know this can be a time filled with fear, uncertainty, and physical weakness, but we take comfort that the Lord is our healer and our strength. Scripture reminds us of His compassion and power to heal, as it says in Psalm 103:2-3, Bless Yahweh, my soul, and don't forget all his benefits, who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases. And in Jeremiah 30:17 the Lord says, But I will restore health to you and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh. We cling to these promises while also trusting in His perfect will and timing for your life.

We also want to encourage you with the peace He offers in the midst of this trial. Isaiah 41:10 tells us, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. And Philippians 4:6-7 says, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. We pray you will feel that guarding peace over your heart and mind in the days ahead, and that God will give wisdom and skill to your doctors and care team as they treat you.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and can come boldly to His throne of grace. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 teaches, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus, for Romans 10:9 says, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is by His shed blood and resurrection that we are forgiven, healed, and made whole, and we can bring every need to God in His name.

We now pray together for you.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to You. We ask for Your healing hand to be upon their body. We pray that You would guide the chemotherapy, that it would be effective in targeting what needs to be removed, and that You would lessen any side effects, nausea, pain, or fatigue. Grant strength for each day, restful sleep at night, and nourishment for the body. Fill their heart with courage and peace that surpasses understanding, and surround them with supportive loved ones and caregivers who will encourage them in Your love. Let them sense Your presence very near, upholding them with Your righteous right hand. Above all, we pray for Your will to be done, and that through this journey they would draw closer to You and experience Your mercy and grace in a deep way. We pray for complete restoration according to Your perfect plan, and we thank You that You hear us when we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Thank you for trusting us with this. Hearing you will be starting chemotherapy, we know this can feel heavy and uncertain, and we want to stand with you in it.

It is understandable if you feel more fragile or vulnerable than usual, or find yourself dealing with worry, poor sleep, low energy or just feeling worn down. Treatment is demanding physically and emotionally, and it often affects the whole family as schedules change and everyone adjusts. It can also feel isolating when you do not have the energy to get to church or do what you normally do.

One thing that has helped many walking this road is not carrying the details alone. If you can, bring a trusted family member or friend to appointments to help listen and write down what the doctors share, and let your care team know about any side effects or concerns quickly so they can support you well. It also helps to let a couple of people close to you know one or two practical ways they can help, whether a ride, a meal, or simply sitting with you.

We are praying for you as you begin this course of treatment.

Father, we lift our friend to You as chemotherapy begins. You see the fear and fatigue and all that is unknown. Grant wisdom to the doctors and nurses, strength for each day, and Your nearness and peace in the waiting. Sustain them and their loved ones, and guide each step according to Your will. In Jesus name, amen.

Your request concerning the coming chemotherapy has been brought before the Lord, and we have made it our prayer to Him on your behalf.

We are reminded that human strength, even at its best, will spend itself and utterly fail. Apart from God it is not strength at all and must come to an end. But the promise stands sure, they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. When all your own strength fails you, your strength shall be to sit still while God arises and becomes your arm every morning, your salvation in the time of trouble. He gives power to the faint, and to those who have no might He increases strength.

There is One who cares for you, and who is the true Physician. We very speedily care for bodily diseases, for they urge us to seek a physician, and how merciful it is that we have such a one in Christ. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. His fruit is sweet and nourishing, and even His leaves are full of healing virtue to change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. Calvary is the place for the healing balm, and He is able to heal. He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds.

We pray that the Lord Himself will strengthen you, for it is He who says, I will strengthen them in the Lord, and therefore it will be fitly infused and wisely balanced. May He sustain you through each treatment, give wisdom and skill to those who care for you, and grant you renewed strength, renewed hope and renewed delight in His presence day by day. When there remains no strength in you, fling yourself upon the Divine strength and lay hold upon it.

Above all we pray that whether in sickness or in health you may know the deeper healing of pardoned sin through faith in Jesus Christ alone, for there is no hope in ourselves, but there is hope in Him whom God has provided to be the Savior. Many a child of God when weary has renewed his strength at the remembrance of pardoning mercy. May you know that mercy, and may the peace of God which passes all understanding keep your heart and mind.

We continue to wait upon the Lord with you, asking that He would be the glory of your strength and that you may find Him to be your all in this trial.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ our only hope, look in mercy upon this dear one. Lay Your healing hand upon body and soul, ease fear, grant patience under trial, and work recovery according to Your perfect will. Let Your presence be near, Your promises be precious, and Your strength be made perfect in weakness. Amen.
