healing

Thank you for sharing this need. Shortness of breath is distressing, and it is understandable to want answers and relief. We are praying for you.

Scripture reminds us that the soul of every living thing and the breath of all mankind is in the hand of God. Your very breath is sustained by Him. You do not have to think to breathe. Your lungs work without being attached to your will, and that is a mercy. God has made breathing automatic. He gives breath to the people and spirit to those who walk on the earth, and the breath of the Almighty gives life. If He were to withdraw that breath, we would return to dust. Our lives depend on Him moment by moment. In the original languages of the Bible the same word is used for breath, spirit and wind, which helps us see how closely our breathing and our life are tied to the Spirit of God who made us and sustains us.

That truth is both humbling and comforting. The God who holds your breath in His hand is near, He knows your body, and He cares for you. We often use the breath He gives without thinking about the Giver, but you can use this very breath even now to call upon Him and to give Him thanks that He is in control.

We are asking God to give wisdom for a right diagnosis and to guide those who are trying to help you. We are also asking Him to bring you healing and to restore your breathing. The Bible shows that Jesus healed in many different ways. Sometimes He healed instantly with a touch, sometimes with only a word from a distance, and once He healed gradually in stages. All healing comes from God, whether it comes in a moment or through the natural processes He has built into our bodies. Those processes themselves are divine, because He created them.

We do not always understand why some are healed quickly and others are not. Even the apostle Paul prayed repeatedly for his own affliction and the Lord chose to answer in a different way, showing that healing is according to His sovereign will and purpose. Yet we know that God is able, that He went about healing every kind of sickness and disease, and that the suffering of Christ was spoken of as bearing our sicknesses as well as our sins. So we pray with confidence that He is able to heal you, and we trust His wisdom and love for what is best.

Father, we lift up this dear one to You, in whose hand is every breath. You see the struggle to breathe and the desire for clarity. Please grant a correct diagnosis and wisdom to all involved in care. Touch this body and restore full and easy breathing, whether by Your immediate power or through the healing processes You have placed within us. Give peace and strength in the waiting, and help each breath to be used to trust and glorify You. We ask this in the name of Jesus.
