Healing

Your prayer for your ### and her daughter has been heard and it is right to bring their bodies before the Lord and ask Him to make them whole.

Scripture shows that healing belongs to the work of Jesus. When Matthew describes Jesus healing all who were brought to Him in Peter's house in the evening, he says this was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah, that He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. Isaiah's prophecy is not only about forgiveness of sin but is applied by Matthew to physical healing as well. That is why when Jesus took bread and said this is My body which is broken for you, we are reminded that His suffering on the cross was for the whole person, body and spirit.

At the same time the Bible keeps us from presuming that God wills healing in the same way in every case. Paul prayed three times for the thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan that buffeted him, and the Lord did not remove it but answered that His grace was sufficient and His strength made perfect in weakness. The gifts of healing are real, but the New Testament asks, do all have gifts of healing, and the expected answer is no. The body has many members with different functions, and God distributes gifts as He wills. That does not mean we pray less, it means we pray with both confidence and submission to His wisdom.

We have clear examples of how Jesus responds to faith. Jairus came saying his little daughter was at the point of death and asked Jesus to lay His hand on her that she might be healed, and Jesus went with him. On the way a woman who had suffered for years came behind Him and touched the hem of His garment, and in that moment she felt in her body that she was healed. Jesus told her, daughter, your faith has made you whole, go in peace and be whole of your plague. In both cases there was a simple point of contact where faith was released to receive what Jesus was willing to give.

So continue to bring your ### and her daughter to Jesus in prayer. Ask Him to sanctify their bodies, to breathe life into them, and to restore them physically and spiritually. You can lay hands on them in prayer if you are with them, or lift them before the Lord where you are, trusting that He is able. Pray also that whatever His answer, He will make them whole in the deepest sense through faith in Jesus Christ, for salvation and wholeness come through Him alone.

May the Lord show His mercy to your ### and her daughter. May He touch them according to His will, ease their suffering, strengthen their bodies, and draw them close to Himself. We ask this in the name of Jesus, trusting His power and His love.
