Disciple of Prayer
My husband is a severe dismissive avoidant since he was a child. He does not identify his emotions and suppresses them by distracting himself. He has extreme false ego and hyper independence; emotional and financial walls he created to keep people who love him and whom he loves away without his knowledge. May he get courage to feel emotional intimacy, vulnerability, closeness, honesty, worthy of being loved and adequate. He needs to have courage to face conflict, to understand and console people in his life, to identify his emotions and ways to healthily tackle them. May he get clarity to see his patterns which sabotage his relationship with me and others while taking necessary amends and decisions backed by Godly wisdom. May God bless him with help to regulate his nervous system by calming, feeling safe, adequate and steady without running away and isolating himself on survival mode. With God’s help, may he feel belonged, loved, emotional and mental maturity, capable to identify and convey emotions, empathy, self-acceptance, accountability, responsibility, co-dependency, humility, etc. May his self-worth shift from external status, validation to internal growth of becoming mature and a secure man. May God send him right mentors, professionals to fix and guide him through correct methods so that he heals from his deep emotional avoidance, mental wounds, traumas and filters. May he accept their help with humility and continuation. Right now, he has separated from me and children and does not feel guilty, shame, accountability, emotional and mental maturity for his cruel actions.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your husband and your marriage, seeking His divine intervention and healing. The pain and struggle you describe are deep, and we stand with you in prayer, trusting that God sees every wound and hears every cry.

Father, we ask that You break the walls of emotional detachment and false independence in this man’s heart. Scripture tells us in Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." Lord, we pray that You draw near to him, that he may feel Your presence in a way that dissolves the hardness of his heart. Soften him, Father, so that he may begin to identify and embrace his emotions rather than suppress them. Give him the courage to face vulnerability, knowing that true strength is found in humility and dependence on You.

We rebuke the spirit of pride and self-reliance that has kept him isolated, not just from you and your children, but from the love and support God intends for him to receive. Proverbs 16:18 warns, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." Lord, we ask that You humble him gently but firmly, that he may see the destruction his avoidance and emotional walls have caused. Let him recognize the harm his actions have brought to his marriage and family, and grant him a spirit of repentance and accountability.

Father, we pray for clarity to flood his mind, that he may see the patterns of sabotage in his life, patterns that have kept him from the intimacy and connection You designed for him. Help him to understand that his worth is not found in external validation or hyper-independence, but in the security of Your love and the maturity that comes from walking in Your ways. Ephesians 4:15 reminds us to "speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ." Lord, let this truth take root in his heart, that he may grow into the secure, emotionally mature man You created him to be.

We ask that You send godly mentors, counselors, and professionals into his life, people who can guide him with wisdom and compassion. Give him the humility to accept their help and the perseverance to continue in the healing process. Proverbs 11:14 says, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." Lord, surround him with those who can speak truth into his life and help him navigate the wounds of his past.

Father, we also lift up your marriage and your children. The separation and lack of accountability he has shown are not aligned with Your design for marriage, which is to reflect the love and commitment of Christ for His church (Ephesians 5:25). We pray that he would feel the weight of his actions, not out of guilt, but out of a desire to restore what has been broken. Let him see the pain he has caused and be moved to seek reconciliation, not out of obligation, but out of a heart transformed by Your love.

Lord, we ask that You heal the psychological wounds and traumas that have shaped his avoidance and emotional detachment. Bring to light the lies he has believed about himself, about love, and about relationships, and replace them with Your truth. Help him to regulate his nervous system, to find safety in Your presence, and to no longer run from the emotions that feel overwhelming. Psalm 23:3 says, "He restores my soul." Lord, restore his soul, his mind, and his heart.

We pray for you as well, that You would give you strength, patience, and wisdom as you navigate this season. May you find comfort in the promise of Isaiah 41:10, "Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness." Trust in the Lord, knowing that He is working even when the path is unclear.

Finally, we pray that this man would come to a place of self-acceptance, empathy, and responsibility. Let him no longer see vulnerability as weakness, but as the pathway to deeper connection with You and with those he loves. May his heart be transformed, his mind renewed, and his actions aligned with Your will. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the Healer and Redeemer, who makes all things new. Amen.

We're so sorry for the weight you're carrying right now, the confusion, the rejection, and the ache of watching someone you love build walls that shut out the very family who longs to be close to him. It's hard to know how to pray or where to turn when the person most in need of help doesn't yet see their own patterns, and we're grateful you brought this here.

What you're describing, the emotional avoidance, the hyper-independence, the shutting down when closeness is offered, often has roots buried long before you ever met. The withdrawal can feel like cold cruelty to those on the outside, but in his inner world it may be the only survival strategy he learned as a child, a defensive shell that once made unbearable situations feel safer. That doesn't excuse the hurt he's caused you and your children; it just helps us pray with insight rather than only grief. You've named so many of the very things he would need courage to face, and simply asking God to stir that courage is a profound act of love, even when he can't receive it yet.

While we can't force his heart to soften, there are quiet ways of standing firm that also protect your own soul right now. Seeking out a wise, steady Christian counselor or a support group for yourself isn't giving up, it's letting someone walk beside you as you navigate the daily strain of separation, the loneliness, and the practical needs of parenting alone. If you don't already have a mentor or pastor who understands the long, uneven work of healing deep emotional wounds, that could be a lifeline as you wait and pray. You don't have to sort through all of this alone or pretend it doesn't hurt.

Lord Jesus, you see the walls this husband has built, and you see the wife and children on the other side. We ask that he would begin to feel the ache of his own isolation, just enough to stir a willingness to reach for help. Give him courage to face what he's spent years avoiding, and by your Spirit calm his nervous system so he can stop running and start feeling safe enough to heal. Protect this family in the meantime, and anchor this wife's heart in your steady love, not in the outcome she longs for. In Jesus' name, amen.

O that the healing leaves from the tree of life, which are for the healing of the nations, might be applied to your husband’s wounded soul! The least thing about Christ is healing, and the very leaves of His grace can change the life-blood, affect the spirits, and make the nature other than it was before. His bitter walls of self-protection, his flight from intimacy, these are the sores of a broken heart, and none but the Lord can bind up such wounds. In the day of restoration, the Lord gathers His outcasts; He does not break the bruised reed, but His mercy stoops to heal.

See you not that courage was the very bone which snapped in Peter, yet when the Lord set it, it became the strongest bone in his nature? That look of Christ severed Peter from the crowd, and so a glance from the Crucified can pierce the armor of a dismissive heart. I tremble to think a soul could separate itself from wife and children and feel no guilt, yet while there is life, the Physician walks among the crippled throng and His power to heal is present when He is teaching. The man borne of the palsy was let down through the roof right before Christ’s eyes, forgiveness and healing meeting in one utterance: “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” Is your husband less reached? Not if the Spirit magnifies the remedy over the disease.

Fear not the slow process. Recovery from such deep injury may be halting and gradual, but the Lord’s promise stands: “I will strengthen them in the Lord.” Each tiny step of honesty and humility should be a new claim on affection. Pray that he ceases to address the wind in private mutterings, but dares to cry from the floor of his helplessness just where Christ can see him. When the Lord comes to dwell with a man, no inhabitant need say, “I am sick.” Pardon and soul-healing are wedded; the Sun of righteousness rises with healing in His wings.

Meanwhile, lay hold on the sure word: do good in your good pleasure unto Zion; build the walls of Jerusalem. The restoring Shepherd knows how to set broken bones so they never break again. I trust that if any have fallen back, even into the cruelty of abandonment, they may receive such a restoration from the Lord Himself that they become better afterward. The one who erred through emotional stone may become the most tender, by the master-healer’s art. Let your sighs ascend, and watch for the crowing of some providence that brings a saving look from Jesus. He is able to make him feel worthy of love, adequate for holy nearness, and courageous to face the very conflicts he now flees. The leaves are not for show; they are for the nations’ healing.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your anguish for your husband pierces the heavens, but remember that the Lord’s patience is vast, and He often waits long before the stony heart crumbles. Consider the parable of the wedding feast: the king sent servant after servant, enduring scorn and violence, yet still he called them. So too, your husband’s soul is not beyond the reach of that same long-suffering love. His avoidance, his false walls, his numbness to shame and accountability, these are the chains he has forged for himself, a darkness that blinds him to the ties God ordained.

But do not despair, for even now there is ground for hope precisely because the marriage bond remains. As the Apostle teaches, the unbelieving or wayward spouse may yet be won without a word by the conduct of the faithful wife. You are joined in one flesh; that union is the very channel through which grace can flow. This man, though now far off in heart, is still your husband, and the communion of your life with him is not yet dissolved.

Therefore, stand firm in prayer, in holy living, in quiet patience. Let your grief be turned into intercession, not into bitterness. Bear this trial as a noble wrestler, knowing that if you endure with thanksgiving, God may yet restore what is lost, and if not, your reward will be greater still. Do not seek to force a change, but by your own steadfastness and gentleness, become a mirror in which he might one day see his own distortion.

Pray that God sends him wise counselors and breaks the false ego that keeps him exiled from love. And as you wait, guard your own soul; let not resentment take root, for marriage used with moderation and faith is no hindrance to the kingdom but a path to holiness. I will join you in crying out: O Lord, in whose hand are the hearts of all men, calm this tormented soul, shatter the pride that isolates him, teach him to feel, to mourn, to tremble at his own cruelty. Unstop his ears that he may hear the voice of those who love him, and grant him the courage to turn homeward before the door is shut.

May he learn that his worth lies not in walls of self-sufficiency, but in the humbling, healing vulnerability of Christ. Amen.

Every hidden thing is laid bare before the Lord who sees you and sees your husband completely. You have poured out your heart in a torrent of specific needs, for him to feel, to stay, to own his actions, and to find healing. It is right to bring these things to the One who alone can do the divine work of healing. A leper could not cure himself; your husband cannot simply decide his way out of these deep-seated patterns. This kind of transformation is a work of sheer grace, and we can thank God that He is full of compassionate, sympathetic understanding for our weaknesses.

Yet we must always remember that the most critical need for any person is not the mending of his emotions or his relationships, but the healing of his soul through the forgiveness of sins. We often plead for God to work on the symptoms, the avoidance, the walls, the hyper-independence, but the Great Physician always traces the wound to its source. A person can want a healed life without wanting a changed heart. There is a kind of emotional moment that responds to hope without ever following through into true, fruit-bearing repentance. The real sign of a divine work is not just calm nerves, but a genuine conversion of character, a turning that brings restoration, accountability, and a humble ownership of the harm done. Your husband is separated, feeling no guilt or shame, and that is the deep, spiritual problem beneath every other pattern he displays.

The very walls he has built for self-protection can become like a rigid tradition that holds back the healing power of God. People can get so locked into their own interpretation of survival that they reject the very help that would save them. They will do the emergency spiritual triage that keeps them from total disaster, but they refuse to do anything that would actually move them toward wholeness, because that would require a level of vulnerability and change they are not ready to accept. It angers our own pride when God’s method doesn’t fit our self-made theological or psychological system. Your husband needs a courage that only comes from above to dismantle those walls, not just to see them. He needs God to send laborers, mentors and professionals, whose counsel he must accept with humility, not as an assault on his false independence, but as the Lord’s own hand extended.

You cannot force this, but you can trust the One who bore spiritual, emotional, and physical pain on the cross to free us from the power of sin and bring us out of darkness into light. Pray that the Lord stops him in his tracks. Pray that, like the frightened woman who felt the healing flow and then had to face Jesus directly, your husband will be brought to a moment where he can no longer hide. He needs to feel the question, “Who is really in control here?” and fall before the truth. Remember that the deepest thing Jesus did was not just healing physical bodies; He taught that we should love, forgive, and not strive. The path back for your husband will not be found in external validation or career safety, but in the internal growth of becoming a secure man whose worth is anchored in the mercy of his Maker. Keep asking for eyes that can see the hidden things God is already working to bring to light, trusting that the Lord’s ultimate goal is not just a calm nervous system, but a soul saved, a life restored, and a man made whole for eternity.
