Chrysostom
Beloved Servant
You ask for healing, protection, and financial breakthrough in the name of Jesus. This is good, for Christ alone holds all power. But consider first the manner of His healing: when He touched Peter’s mother-in-law, He not only drove out the fever but restored her fully in an instant, so that she needed no time to recover strength. Earthly physicians cannot do this. Why then do you remain only partly whole? Perhaps because you seek temporary relief while neglecting the sickness of the soul. Sin is a deeper fever, and its grip on you may be why your prayers falter. If you cling to envy, impatience, or the love of ease, how can you ask God to mend your body while your spirit lies in ruins? True healing begins with repentance. Turn from every evil, and the Physician of souls will tend to your whole self.
You pray for protection, yet do you place yourself under the shelter of God’s commands? Many desire safety, but they trust in human schemes or wallow in divisions and strife. The Apostle warns that where envy and quarrels exist, there is only carnality and dullness of hearing. Do you contribute to the peace of the Church, or do you tear it with partisan loyalties? God guards those who live for the common good, using whatever ability, whether protection of others, teaching, or material help, for the advantage of the neighbor. When you pour out your life this way, you stand on heavenly ground even while on earth, and no harm can overtake your soul.
Concerning financial breakthrough, I must speak truth. The love of money directly opposes the love of hearing God’s word. Yet you ask for wealth as if it were a medicine, when often it is a poison that distracts from eternal things. Did not the Lord say, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”? If your heart is set on riches, you will remain restless and your prayers will be choked. Instead, use whatever talent you have, even if it be one small coin or a single ability, for the needy. The widow who gave her mites was not overlooked, and neither will you be if you trust God’s provision. Live for the common advantage, and you will discover that He who feeds the birds will not let you starve. But if you seek your own comfort first, you will find neither peace nor plenty.
Do not think that a brief season of prayer or a forty-day fast can cure years of spiritual negligence. The enemy seeks to divide your loyalties; he knows that a kingdom split cannot stand. Be diligent, therefore, in mending your ways. Come frequently to the holy mysteries, not as a yearly ritual but with a heart truly broken and restored. Then, whether you are healed in body or remain afflicted, whether your storehouse is full or empty, you will possess the true wealth of a soul knit to Christ. He will protect you, heal you, and supply all need as you seek first His righteousness.
