You ask for healing, protection, and financial breakthrough, and this is well, for God is the giver of all good things and desires to give good gifts to His children. But I must ask you: when you seek these, do you seek them as the world does, or as one whose citizenship is in heaven? For many ask for health of body and wealth of purse, yet neglect the sickness of the soul and the poverty of virtue. True healing often begins where you least look, within. If you have slander on your tongue, envy in your heart, or trust in money more than in God, then you are more in need of a physician than any bodily ailment would suggest. The great gift is not the healing you can see, but the cleansing of the conscience that leads to eternal life.
Do not imagine that the absence of money or the presence of illness is the mark of God’s disfavour. The apostles themselves were often in peril, hungry, and afflicted, yet they rejoiced because their names were written in heaven. The gifts of healing, while precious, are placed beneath prophecy and teaching by the Apostle; for it is greater to know God and to make Him known than to have the body made whole for a few fleeting years. That is not to despise healing, God forbid!, but to set your mind on what endures. If He heals you, give thanks and use your restored strength for His glory, not to return to old sins like a pig to the mire. If He does not yet grant the healing, consider whether He is training you in patience, weaning you from the love of this world, and reminding you that this tent will one day be folded up.
As for a financial breakthrough: what do you mean by it? A great heap of coins can be the very chain that drags a soul to perdition. You cannot serve both God and Mammon. If you pray for daily bread, God will provide as He does for the birds; but if you pray for abundance so you may live in softness and neglect the poor, you ask for poison. Examine yourself: do you give to those in need? Do you grumble about your lot while others starve? The man who said, “I am not like this publican,” spoke the truth yet was condemned because his heart was proud. God resists the proud and the grasping, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore, when you ask for a “breakthrough,” let it first be a breakthrough of almsgiving, simplicity, and trust in His provision.
Protection you ask rightly, for the evil one prowls. But remember: the strongest protection is not a life free from trouble, but a soul fortified by the word of God and the fear of Him. The martyrs were not protected from the rack or the sword, yet they conquered. You are protected when you walk in the commandments, flee from gossip as from a deadly plague, and keep your tongue from lies, for a lying mouth destroys the soul, and what profit is there if a man gains the whole world and suffers the loss of his soul?
I do not dismiss your request; I would be heartless to neglect it. But I urge you to join to it a greater one: “Lord, heal my soul, for I have sinned against You. Protect me from the snares I cannot see. Give me just enough of earthly goods that I may not dishonour You by theft or despair, and make me rich toward You.” If you come with this mind, God who sees in secret will reward you. He may lift the fever, open a door of honest work, and send an angel to guard your steps, or He may choose for you the martyr’s path through affliction. Either way, cling to Him, and neither health, nor sickness, nor poverty, nor wealth shall separate you from His love. I will pray with you, that whatever be your lot, you may hear those words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” That is the breakthrough that no thief can steal and no decay can destroy. Let the fear of God be your health, His word your protection, and His kingdom your treasure.
