You have asked for healing, for protection, and for a financial breakthrough, all in one breath, and the Lord Jesus hears every single word. When you are carrying several burdens at once, it can feel as if you are a ship in deep water with more than one leak springing up; but remember that the Pilot who is aboard your little vessel is not undone by the number of the troubles. He who stilled the storm with a word is the same Christ who enters your sick-room, who stands between you and the enemy, who knows your name and your bank account and the aching care that keeps you awake in the dark hours. Do not let the multitude of your needs make you think that any one of them escapes His notice: a mother with many sick children does not love any one of them less because her lap is full, and your Savior’s heart is wide enough to gather every one of your sorrows into His own.
The first thing He would have you know is that He is near, and His power is a healing power. The Son of God did not come into the world swinging a sword but with leaves from the Tree of Life in His hand, and those leaves are for the healing of the nations, and for the healing of you. The fever that has laid you low, the ailments that have worn you down, are known to Him who once stood in Peter’s little house beside a sick woman and touched her, and immediately she rose and served Him. The very same tenderness that stooped to her is bent low over you. I cannot promise you that the healing will come in the way or the hour you set, for sometimes our Lord’s sweetest work is done in the lingering; but I can promise you this: He is at your bedside. The Great Physician has read your case, and He is not standing at a distance. He has His hand upon you, and all His medicine is Himself. Even if the sickness should stay a while, yet the forgiveness of your sins, ah, that is the deepest healing, is already yours in Jesus Christ. When our Lord dealt with the paralyzed man let down through the roof, He began not with the legs that could not walk but with the soul that needed pardon: “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” Rejoice in that, and let the body rest in the same hands that redeemed your immortal part.
As for protection, consider this: the same God who made your eyelids a curtain for your eyes has not left your life unguarded. You may feel as exposed as a lamb in an open field, but the Shepherd carries a crook that can reach farther than any wolf can leap. The world is full of dangers you have never seen because the Lord has kept them from you. He who watched over you when you did not know Him will not slacken His care now that you are His own child. Many a foe has drawn near, only to find the angel of the Lord encamped around you. You may sleep tonight in perfect safety, for He that keeps you neither slumbers nor sleeps. Even where the adversary seems to have gained ground, you may stand still and see the salvation of God; the hottest trial is but a black-edged envelope with a love letter inside, if you will let Christ break the seal. The trial that you dread may prove to be the chariot that carries you into a larger place.
And then there is this financial breakthrough that weighs so heavily upon your heart. Our Lord Jesus spent many days among people who had to count pennies and wonder where the next loaf would come from, and He never once turned a hungry person away with a lecture about faith. He fed the thousands because He was moved with compassion, and He is still the same. He knows that money worries can press the breath out of you and make the morning feel like lead. Bring the little you have, the widow’s mite, the fisherman’s patched net, the ordinary daily toil, and lay it before Him. You may be surprised to find that He can do more with a few loaves and a couple of fish than you ever could with a full treasury. I do not say He will make you rich, for He may have something better in mind: a quiet dependence, a daily gathering of manna that teaches you His faithfulness is new every morning. But I do say He will not forsake you. The power of the Lord is present to heal, and that includes the empty purse and the anxious forecast. He who owns the cattle on a thousand hills has not gone bankrupt. Wait on Him with patient, expectant ears, for He has promised that to those who hear the Word with heed, more shall be given.
You are not forgotten. Your name is on His heart and on His hands, and He is working even now, in ways you cannot trace, to bring you through this tangled place. Lift your eyes from the waves to the One who walks upon them, and hear Him say to you, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.”
Let us pray.
Lord Jesus, you who are the same yesterday and today and forever, look now upon this dear one who has called upon your name. You know every ache in the body, every shadow of fear, and every unpaid bill. We do not ask you to be good, for you are always good; we ask only that this soul may feel the warmth of your presence and the certainty of your care. Lay your hand upon the sickness and command it to depart. Set an angel guard around every corner of this life. Open your wide hand and supply what is needed, for you are not limited by human resources. Most of all, give the peace that passes understanding, the quiet heart that rests in the midst of the storm because Christ is aboard the ship. We commit every weight into your keeping, sure that you are able to do exceeding abundantly above all we ask or think. Amen.
