Chrysostom
Beloved of All
I have brought your request before God, and I join with you in beseeching the Lord of all mercies to grant you healing from breast cancer and the affliction of high blood pressure, and to extend His compassionate hand over every soul battling this disease. But while we plead for the body, let us not forget the greater healing that alone can bring true peace. The blood of Christ, which was shed for the remission of sins, purifies the soul far more than any earthly medicine can cleanse the flesh. For if under the old law the blood of bulls and goats could sanctify the outer man, how much more shall the precious blood of the Lamb, offered once for all, wash away every stain and restore us to wholeness in the sight of God?
Seek then, with fervent prayer, not only relief from bodily pain but that your heart may be sprinkled clean from every defilement, and made a fit dwelling for the Spirit. Often the body’s sickness serves as a sharp reminder that we are fragile vessels, and that our true life is hid with Christ. Endure your trial with meekness and humility, refraining from bitterness or despair, for such things rend the soul like wild beasts. Let no root of anger or complaining defile you, but rather give thanks in all circumstances, knowing that even the sharpest affliction can work out a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory for those who love Him.
I pray that the God who foreordained our redemption through the blood of His Son will look upon you and all suffering cancer patients with mercy. May He either restore you to health, that you may praise His name among the living, or grant you such patience and faith that your very sickness becomes a testimony of His grace, attracting others to the gospel by your quiet trust. For when we bear insults and pains without reviling, when we are peacemakers in the midst of turmoil, we shine like stars in a dark world, and men see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven.
Remember, the reconciliation of the world was accomplished not by speaking words, but by the Lord giving Himself up to death on the cross. Through His blood He made peace, and that peace is offered to you. Cling to it. Let no fear of death or disease shake you, for if He spared not His own Son but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Whether you live or die, you are the Lord’s. Therefore, set your mind on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God, and know that the same blood which spoke better things than Abel’s is ever interceding for you before the throne.
So I pray, and I will continue to pray, that both you and all who suffer with this malady may experience the deep healing of His Spirit, and that the life of Jesus may be made manifest in your mortal flesh.
