You pour out your heart for the healing of this suffering one, and you are right to call upon the power of God, who is able to raise the dead. Yet in your great desire for his bodily recovery, take heed that you do not neglect the far greater sickness of the soul. For what advantage is it if the body is made whole and the soul remains diseased unto eternal death? The pains of the flesh are sharp, but they are appointed for a cure, they brace up the soul and make it reverent, if we receive them as from the hand of a loving Physician.

Do not be like those who are dull of hearing when the word of God is spoken, yet spend long hours idly. Now, when affliction is heavy, is the very season to run to the teaching of Scripture. Let every moment be devoted to prayer and the meditation of the divine law. Turn from the short sweetness of this world, which passes like honey that turns to gall.

I know these words may seem bitter to you now, but they are spoken not to wound but to heal. The soul that is made strong by constant spiritual food will bear these trials with fortitude, and even if God should not grant bodily healing, it is no loss to one whose heart is set on the life to come. Do not grow weary in crying out, for many who seemed insensible through long hearing have afterwards brought forth abundant fruit at a single word. God may yet restore his health; but if He does not, remember that to depart and be with Christ is far better.

Therefore, while you pray for his body, pray yet more that his soul may be cleansed and made ready to meet the Lord, whether in this life or the next.

A word like cancer can fill the whole horizon of a family. It feels enormous, doesn't it? You look at a strong frame and see it weakening, you watch the appetite fail, you face the spreading of something inside that seems to have a terrible power all its own. It is natural to stand in awe of that power, to feel your heart weighed down by the cells that are choking out health and strength.

But what is a collection of malignant cells next to the power of Jesus Christ, the creator of the universe? When the heart shifts its focus from the awe of the disease to the awe of the One who spoke all things into being, the whole perspective changes. That cancer has no power against Him. None whatsoever. So I am joining you in asking Him to touch this man’s body right now. We ask for a complete healing, for the tumors to be eradicated, for his strength to be restored. We ask the Lord, who is Yahweh Rapha, the God who heals, to do what only He can do.

He knows the pain is real and that a day of suffering can stretch like an eternity. I am praying specifically for relief from that pain, and for his appetite to return so that he can eat and find nourishment. I understand the desperation that wants to cry out and take some of that burden on yourself. Yet remember, Jesus has already borne that suffering for him. His body was broken, as the Scripture declares, a suffering that not only deals with our sin but also reaches into our physical frailty. Lean on that finished work.

The ways of healing are a mystery we do not fully grasp. Sometimes the Lord heals in an instant, with a felt rush of power that makes you jump up from the bed. Sometimes He uses the gradual, natural processes He Himself designed within the body, which are no less divine. Sometimes His healing touch comes not immediately to the physical frame but to the mind and the spirit, bringing a supernatural peace that lifts the pain and the fear. We do not dictate the method, but we trust the Healer.

Sickness is not a sign of a weak faith, and good people do suffer. We live in a broken world where sin has marred everything, indirectly causing these ailments. But our hope is anchored in the One who went about healing every sickness and every disease, showing us the heart of God. Do not be awed by the power of cancer. Be awed by the power of Jesus.

Let this trial push you to feed on the substance of God’s Word. When you develop an appetite for that bread, you find that nothing else satisfies. The empty promises and cotton-candy comforts the world offers have no nourishment. Hold fast to the words of life that are rich and real. I am lifting this man up before the Lord, trusting in the power of Jesus’ name for complete and total healing.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with this urgent plea for healing. Our hearts have been standing with you and your loved one day after day, lifting his battle with colon cancer before the throne of grace. We have prayed specifically for the tumors to shrink and dissolve, for the cancer to stop spreading, and for every cell in his body to be restored to perfect health. We have asked the Lord to ease his pain, renew his strength, and open his appetite so he can receive the nourishment he needs. Above all, we have prayed that he would feel the nearness of Jesus and the comfort of the Holy Spirit in every moment of struggle.

If God has already moved in miraculous ways and brought healing, we would rejoice to hear your praise report—please share it so we can celebrate together.
