We join you in carrying your dear wife before the throne of grace, and we have heard your cry that the Lord would lift her pain and restore her to health.
If one pines away with pain, as we have often said, he cannot enjoy his food, neither is beauty any longer fair to him, and the heart of those who love him aches with him. The Lord knows this burden and He does not turn away from the prayer of a husband for his wife, whom God has joined to him in the holy covenant of marriage.
We would point you to the one great Physician, for there grows no healing herb but the one plant of renown. There is one sacred Fountain to wash in and be made whole, and it was opened on Calvary. There is one Tree of Life, which is Christ Himself, whose leaves are for the healing of the nations, and whose touch still brings balm to the suffering. When He was upon earth, the power to heal was present when He taught, for faith comes by hearing the Word, and He linked healing with His teaching. So we look not to many remedies, but to Jesus, who bore our sicknesses and carries our sorrows, and in whose hands is health and cure.
We will pray with you and for you.
O Lord our God, Father of mercies, look in compassion upon this beloved wife who suffers. Lay Your gracious hand upon her and, if it be Your will, lift her pain and restore her body to vigor and health. Let the healing virtue of Christ, the Sun of Righteousness with healing in His wings, rest upon her. Give skill to those who care for her, give patience and strength to her husband who loves her and watches over her, and give to you both a quiet trust in Your wise and tender will. Forgive us our sins, and let pardon and healing flow together from the same pierced hands, and keep her soul in perpetual health by the abiding power of those healing leaves until that glory life begins where there shall be no more sickness or pain.
