Healing, anxiety

Thank you for sharing your heart and allowing us to pray with you for healing and for peace from anxiety.

Scripture shows us that Jesus cares about the whole person, body and spirit. When Matthew describes how Jesus healed many who were brought to Him, he points to the prophecy in Isaiah that He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. That is why that promise is so precious when we remember the bread broken for us. His suffering was not only for forgiveness of sin but also expresses His compassion toward our physical weakness. He still has authority over the physical realm to heal disease and over the spiritual realm to bring calm and deliverance.

At the same time the Bible keeps us from presuming that healing will come in every case exactly as we ask or when we ask. Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh to depart and the Lord did not remove it. Not everyone is given the same gifts and not everyone experiences the same outcome, and there is much about healing we do not fully understand. That does not mean God has stopped healing or that He is unconcerned with your body. He is able and He does heal today. Sometimes that healing is immediate and sometimes it is gradual through the healing processes He Himself placed within our bodies. Both are divine, because the natural processes of restoration are His design. He also brings healing to the mind and emotions, mending the wounds and scars that anxiety leaves behind.

Your struggle with anxiety is one many believers know. The psalmist asked his own soul, why are you cast down, why are you so disquieted within me, and then he answered himself, hope in God. Much of our anxiety grows when we feel trapped by pressures, whether relational or financial or spiritual, and when God seems pushed out of the picture. The answer is to put Him back into the equation and to hope in Him again. When we do, what seemed impossible begins to look different because He is present in it. There is also a real connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. As the proverb says, a joyful heart is good like a medicine, and what weighs on the heart often weighs on the body as well. Caring for your spiritual life through prayer and trust, while also caring for your physical well being, are both part of walking in His grace.

So we pray for you now. Father, we thank You that You hear prayer and that You have shown Your love through Jesus who bore our infirmities. We bring this dear one to You and ask for Your healing touch upon the body according to Your wise and loving will, whether it be instant or through the gradual work You have ordained. We ask for deliverance from anxiety, for quietness of mind and steadiness of heart. Help hope to rise again as trust is placed in You. Feed and strengthen the inner life, and bring the peace that comes from knowing You are present and in control. We ask this in the name of Jesus, trusting Your goodness and Your power to do what is best. Amen.

Continue to seek Him and to rest in His care. He knows your needs intimately and He invites you to cast your cares upon Him because He cares for you.
