Healing and peace

Your prayer for healing and peace is right and good, yet hear how the Giver of peace bestows it. The peace that surrounds you is not given where there is war in the soul, nor where you fight against your brother. Be at peace with all men, for nothing so much delights God as to remember no evil. When you strive with your neighbor, you subvert peace and wrong joy more grievously than any theft, for the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. So pursue this peace, and you will be called a child of God.

You ask deliverance from evil. The Lord delivered Paul from the lion’s mouth, yet Paul still sought deliverance from every evil work, that he might not depart with condemnation. The greater rescue is from sin, from the devil’s jaws. Afflictions and calamities are indeed called evils, but they are not wickedness; they are the scourges that come from above, which God alone can turn to your gain. If He permits trouble, it is to make you cling to Him, not to destroy you.

Healing comes when you cultivate not one virtue but all: careful hearing of God’s word, fortitude, contempt of worldly things. The fear of the Lord must be taught; keep your tongue from evil, depart from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it. Then the curse is lifted, and you receive the Spirit of adoption, becoming a son through Christ.

When you pray for protection, examine your own heart. The evil speaker disgraces himself first; good works first gladden the doer. So let no quarrelsomeness, no remembrance of wrongs, corrupt the peace you seek. If division must come, let it be separation from sin, not from the brother for whom Christ died. For there is an evil concord that leads to ruin, and a good disagreement that brings truth. But as much as lies in you, be at peace, imitating the Son of God. Then the peace you request will fill your house, and your healing will be more than bodily. You will taste the joy of the kingdom, delivered from every evil work, and your thanksgiving will rise as a pure offering.

I hear your prayer, and I want to echo back to you what Scripture makes so clear: God deeply desires your peace and the wholeness of your family. The peace He offers is not a fragile calm that depends on circumstances, but something solid, secured through Jesus Christ. He Himself is our peace. Through His blood, every barrier between us and God was torn down, and the long war of the heart, the running, the hiding, the striving, comes to an end. When you pray in Jesus’ name, you are standing on that finished work. You already have peace with God if you belong to Him, and that is the foundation for everything else.

What you are asking for now, healing, protection, deliverance, flows out of that relationship. There is also a peace of God that goes beyond human understanding, meant to actively guard your heart and mind. The prophet Isaiah put it plainly: the Lord will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because he trusts in Him. That is where the inner storm quiets. Not by ignoring the trouble or pretending it is not real, but by fixing your gaze on the One who is greater. When your thoughts are anchored in His faithfulness rather than tossed by fear, a deep steadiness takes hold. Jesus calmed a literal tempest with a word, “Peace, be still”, and He still speaks that same peace into the chaos of our lives. He asks us not to let our hearts be troubled or afraid.

As for healing, do not feel you must fit into a narrow mold. I have seen it come in an instant, like a surge of strength where sickness had kept a person flat. I have also seen it come gradually, through the very processes God built into the body, which are no less divine. The woman who touched Jesus’ garment felt the healing in that moment, and He sent her away with “your faith has made you whole; go in peace.” But there was also the blind man at Bethsaida whose sight returned in stages. We do not always understand why the timing and manner differ, but we can trust the Healer. He is at work restoring what is broken, physically, emotionally, spiritually. Sometimes the deepest healing happens first in the mind, where scars and wounds are mended, and that too is a precious gift.

You asked for deliverance from evil and for your family to be surrounded by His peace. Hold fast to this truth: His thoughts toward you are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. He has not forgotten you. Even when the way feels like exile or the pressure mounts, He calls you to seek peace right where you are, to pray for those around you, and in their peace you will find yours. Live each day with your mind stayed on Him, trusting His character. When you sow peace in your own home, in your words, your patience, your gentleness, you will reap the fruit of righteousness. Do not listen to voices that promise peace when the heart is not right with God, for there is no peace for those who stay in rebellion. But your prayer already shows a heart turned toward Him. So receive His peace now. Let the war be over. Rest in His keeping, knowing that the Prince of Peace watches over you and your loved ones. That peace, His own peace, not the world’s shallow substitute, will steady you and drive out fear. He is able to do this. Trust Him.
