The cry of your heart has been heard; you have not come to an unfeeling God but to the living Lord who delights to show mercy. Yet I would press this upon you, that the deepest healing you and your household require is the healing of the soul. There is an abundance of healing power in Christ Jesus, not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves, the least things about Him, are full of virtue. Before the body is restored, see to it that sin is forgiven. When the Lord comes and dwells with His people, the Sun of Righteousness arises with healing in His wings; pardon and healing are one. To the poor man let down through the ceiling, our Master first spoke the word, "Your sins are forgiven you." That was the weightier miracle, and out of it flowed all other mercies. You ask for good news from medical tests and strength to overcome this battle; seek first the cleansing of the Cross, for sin is crucified by the same sacrifice that brings atonement, and every spiritual disease receives its deathblow there.
Do not only cry out for the removal of pain and penury; cry for a heart to perceive the healing that is in Christ. The power that dwelt in Him to cure disease of body is most eminently applied to the removal of the guilt of sin. You are sick, and that is well, for they that are whole need no physician. But mark this: those who get no blessing are those who suppose they do not particularly need it. Come, then, confessing that your very prayers need to be repented of, your tears need to be wept over, and your holiest thoughts are unholy. Lie before Jesus hoping, believing, repenting, and the verdict of absolution will come swifter than the lightning's flash. When sin is forgiven, the soul's sickness is cured, and then the lesser ailments of the body may be touched by the same hand.
And what of your financial needs? Has not the Lord promised that all the saints can possibly need shall be abundantly supplied? No pining need nor grim anxiety shall tempt them to ask, "What shall we eat, or what shall we drink?" The leaves of that tree are for the healing of the nations, and that includes not only flesh but every fretful care. The little things about Christ, His common providences, His ordinary mercies, carry healing for daily bread and medical provision. Only take heed that you hear obediently. You say you need such and such a diet to be restored to health, but you must use it. Hear the Word, not as those who look and go their way forgetting, but as those who do the Word. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God; so place yourself under the teaching of Christ, for when He was teaching, the healing power was conspicuously present.
Then, when the Lord has lifted you up, restored your strength and forgiven your iniquities, you will rise to minister. The fever left Peter's mother-in-law, and immediately she served them. You long for your family to be healed; pray also that they may be saved, and then the whole household will be awakened to serve the Lord. Let no day pass without bringing your dear ones to the Healer in prayer. And for your relatives and friends who suffer, speak to them of the balm in Gilead, for the age is blind and boasts it needs no light from above, yet the nations are sick unto death. You, who have tasted that grace is good, must tell them what great things the Lord has done for you. If you get a little ahead of the age, you must expect ill treatment; it is unsafe to have your eyes opened among blind men, yet open they must be, and opened to lead others to the light.
Take this word with you: the Gospel's healing power has lost none of its force. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He can touch that sickness, lighten that burden, and supply that need. But seek first His righteousness, and all these things shall be added. Do not go blundering out thinking you must solve the finances before you can rest in Christ; trust Him now, and the healing will come from the pardoning hand. God bless you.
