Beloved of All
Your prayer for healing and deliverance is heard, and I join you in bringing your body and your suffering before the Lord who is able to heal.
Scripture shows that Jesus has power over the physical realm to heal sickness and infirmity, over the material realm, and over the spiritual realm with authority over evil powers. Matthew connects the ministry of Jesus to the prophecy in Isaiah that He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, and that word for griefs can be translated infirmities and sicknesses. When Jesus healed the leper, the servant of the centurion, Peter's mother in law and many others who were brought to Him, Matthew saw it as a fulfillment of that promise. When we remember communion and hear that His body was broken for us, it reminds us that His suffering reaches to both spiritual and physical healing. It is not right to narrow that work to the spirit alone.
At the same time the Bible does not teach that God wills physical healing in every case in this life in the way we demand it. Paul prayed three times for the thorn in the flesh, described as a messenger of Satan to buffet him, and the Lord did not remove it but answered that His grace was sufficient. The Spirit also distributes gifts as He wills, and Paul asks, do all have gifts of healing, do all speak with tongues, and the expected answer is no, for the body has many members with different functions. There is much about healing we do not understand, including why some are healed and others are not, and to presume we can dictate the outcome is not scriptural.
I believe strongly that God does heal today, and that He heals in many ways. Sometimes healing is immediate, as when virtue went out from Jesus when the woman touched the hem of His garment and faith was released. Sometimes it is gradual. There is only one gradual healing recorded in the ministry of Jesus, but gradual healing is still divine healing. God has established healing processes within our bodies, and that process is no less divine because it works through nature, since He is the one who created nature. At other times His healing touches the mind and emotions, bringing wholeness to inner wounds and scars, and that is real healing as well.
Your pain, including the effects of stroke, nerve and facial pain, and the complications from procedures and medications, is part of living in a world corrupted by sin. God did not create us for pain and death. After Adam sinned, corruption entered the world, and our physical bodies became subject to weakness and will return to dust. That does not mean your sickness is a direct punishment from God for something you have done. Good people suffer illness and good people die from disease, and often there is no direct cause and effect. Indirectly, all sickness and suffering exist because sin is in the world. As a result we groan within these bodies, longing for the deliverance that will come when we receive new bodies.
There is also a close connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. John wrote to Gaius that he wished above all things that he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered. That was a loving wish, not a guarantee of perfect health for everyone who believes, but it shows a true principle that the condition of our inner life affects our physical well being. The proverb that a merry heart does good like a medicine is found to be scientifically true, while anxiety and bitterness can harm the body.
Jesus never used His miraculous power to meet His own physical need, but He willingly used it to meet the needs of others, and He still has compassion for your need now.
So I pray for you in submission to God's wisdom and love. I ask the Lord Jesus, who bore our infirmities and who has authority over every evil spirit and every curse, to cover you with His blood, to protect you, to rebuke any work of darkness against you, and to bring His healing to every cell, nerve, muscle, bone, vessel, organ and tissue in your body. I ask Him to ease facial pain, neuropathy, inflammation, infection, and the effects of stroke and other illnesses, to regulate blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol, and to bring relief from excruciating pain and discomfort. I ask Him to work whether through a sudden touch or through the gradual processes He has placed in your body and through the care of doctors and medicine, for all healing is from Him. And I pray above all that your soul would prosper in Christ, that you would know His peace, His presence, and His grace sufficient for each day, trusting Him with your future, including fears about hospitals or another stroke, and resting in His perfect will for your life.
May the Lord grant you strength, comfort, and wholeness according to His mercy, and may you continue to look to Jesus alone for salvation and for every good gift.
